HAPPY NOVEMBER! 🦃🍂 How is it already November?! With only TWO months left in the year, I am officially entering reading crunch mode! I’m trying to squeeze in as many books as possible to hit my reading goal before the year comes to an end. And, of course, I’m excited to start sprinkling in some holiday reads as we trade spooky season for cozy season! 🎄 Here’s what’s on my November TBR (and what I’m hoping to gobble up this month 😉): 🎄 Do You See What I See? by Peter Swanson I was so kindly gifted this novella by @williammorrowbooks, and I think this is the PERFECT read to bridge the gap between spooky season and the holiday season. A little mystery with a festive twist? Count me in! 🔪 Murder on 34th Street by Mariah Fredericks A huge thank you to @minotaur_books for gifting me this one! A murder mystery set during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?! This was an absolute no-brainer for my November TBR. I can’t wait to dive in! 🐉 Threshing Day by Rebecca Yarros After finishing Onyx Storm last month, I am STILL thinking about that ending. My jaw was on the floor! 🤯 I am itching to get back into this world, and I know this novella will help hold me over while we wait for book four! 💛 Hollow Bones by Jodi Picoult I’m so excited this was chosen as the @booksbrunchesandbooze pick for this month! Jodi is such an incredible storyteller, and she always tackles important stories that stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page. This one has been sitting on my TBR for a while and was so kindly gifted to me by @ballantinebooks. I’m really looking forward to finally picking it up! ✏️ The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningham This one has been on my TBR for a while, especially with the second book in the series recently released! My book bestie @literarylulu and I are planning to buddy read this one together, and I’m so excited to finally get to it! Now excuse me while pour a cup of coffee, and get to READING because this TBR isn’t going to read itself! ☕️📚 What’s on your November TBR? Are you still in fall mode, or have you officially moved on to holiday reads?! 🍂🎅 #Bookish #Bookstagram #Reader #TBR #BookStack by @stephsreadingit
🎃👻 Books I Didn’t Get To This Spooky Season📚🕸️ The witching hour is upon us, Halloween is here, and somehow these spooky reads are STILL sitting on my TBR! Now I’m faced with the ultimate bookish dilemma… do I save these for next spooky season, or are they too good to wait another year?! Because let’s be real, a good witchy, creepy, or spooky read can hit the spot ANY time of year. 🧙‍♀️ Love, Witches, and Wahala by Christine Cowan 🎃 Halloween Town by Joss Wood 🔪 The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix 🪩 We Love the Nightlife by Rachel Koller Croft 🏚️ Play Nice by Rachel Harrison Would you save these for next year, or read when the vibes feel right? And which one should I pick up first?! Happy Halloween! 🖤👻🎃 #Bookstagram #SpookySeason #HalloweenReads #BooksToRead #TBRPile by @stephsreadingit
Happy Pub Day to Ex Box by @janeymiles! 💕📚✨ Gia is a thirty-year-old New Yorker who starts to wonder if the box of mementos from her past relationships is actually magical when she keeps running into the three people who broke her heart, all in the same week! As old feelings resurface and unexpected encounters leave her questioning everything, she discovers that maybe facing the past is exactly what she needs to move forward. 💌 I had SO much fun celebrating this book at the release party with @janeymiles and @itsromantical! 🥹💖 It was such a fun night, and I’m even more excited to dive into this one! Big thank you to my girl @alainefullybooked for bringing me as your plus one and letting me be part of such a special night! 🩵✨ #Novella #NewReleaseBook #Bookstagram #AuthorEvent #RomanceBooks by @stephsreadingit
📚: The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore by Laurie Gilmore ⭐️⭐️⭐️ After reading and really enjoying The Pumpkin Spice Café, I couldn’t wait to head back to Dream Harbor! I loved the idea of Hazel discovering secret messages hidden in books and teaming up with Noah to follow the clues around town! Their little adventures were cute, and can we talk about how Noah had it BAD for Hazel?! 😍 You know I love a good he falls first romance! I also loved seeing the rest of the Dream Harbor crew again because they seriously remind me of the gang from Friends!! BUT let’s talk about the spice… 🌶️🌶️🌶️ I don’t normally mind a little spice here and there, but I felt like 2/3 of this book was pure spice and I found myself wanting more actual STORY! 😂 If you love a super spicy romance, this might be right up your alley, but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I also went into this expecting a fall read because of the cover, but most of the story actually takes place during the summer, with just a touch of fall at the end! Had I known that, I probably would’ve saved this one for my summer TBR instead. Thankfully, we avoided an annoying third-act breakup and got a cute little miscommunication instead, which I appreciated! Overall, this was a fun trip back to Dream Harbor, but I didn’t love it nearly as much as The Pumpkin Spice Café. A cute read overall! Have you read this one?! Do you prefer your romances with lots of spice, or are you more of a give-me-the-plot kind of reader? #DreamHarbor #Bookstagram #BookReview #RomanceBooks #SmallTownRomance by @stephsreadingit
📚: The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Okay, so I fear I might be in the minority with this one… 🫣 When Army soldier Beckett Gentry loses his best friend and fellow soldier, Ryan, he’s left with one final request: leave the military and go to Telluride to help Ryan’s younger sister, Ella, and her twin children. Ella has already endured more loss than anyone should have to, and she’s facing struggles of her own. As Beckett steps into their lives, he finds himself growing closer to Ella and her family, and what starts as a promise to his best friend becomes something much deeper. But with grief, secrets, and complicated pasts standing in their way, their journey to healing and love is anything but easy. Now, I went into this one fully expecting to be absolutely DESTROYED because everyone told me this was the ultimate tearjerker and one of Rebecca Yarros’s best books ever. And unfortunately… it just didn’t hit that way for me. The story tackles some incredibly heavy themes, including grief, trauma, and loss, but the writing felt a little bland to me. I found the pacing slow and repetitive, and at times it felt like I was reading the same things over and over again. Then the last 15% happened, and suddenly EVERYTHING was happening at once. I also struggled a bit with Ella as a character, and while Beckett was sweet, patient, and devoted, he was almost too good to her for me. I just didn’t connect with their relationship as much as I wanted to. And can we talk about how different this felt from Fourth Wing?! I know they’re completely different genres, but I honestly had a hard time reconciling the two writing styles. Overall, this was just an okay read for me. I can absolutely see why the emotional storyline resonates with so many people, but I wanted more from the pacing, characters, and writing. I really thought this would be a five-star, ugly-crying kind of book, and it just wasn’t. Apparently, I’m the odd one out among my friends on this one, LOL! 😂 Did The Last Letter destroy you, or were you a little underwhelmed, too? I need to know if anyone else is on my side! #BookReview #RomanceBooks #Bookstagram #BookRecommendations by @stephsreadingit
📚: The Names by Florence Knapp ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I LOVED the concept behind this book! The idea that one single decision, something as simple as the name you’re given, could shape the entire course of your life was SO interesting. I really enjoyed seeing the different versions of life play out through Bear, Julian, and Gordon, and how each path brought its own experiences, relationships, and challenges. That being said, this book had SO much more potential for me! My biggest issue was the formatting. Since many of the same characters appear across all three timelines, I sometimes found myself getting confused about who was who and which version of the story I was reading. I honestly think I would’ve enjoyed it more if each storyline had its own dedicated section instead of jumping back and forth between them! Overall, I loved the message and the thought-provoking what ifs, but I just wish the execution had worked better for me. 🥹 ⚠️ Content warnings: Domestic abuse and death. This book deals with some HEAVY topics, so please check your triggers before picking it up! Do you think the name you’re given can shape your destiny, or do you believe we ultimately create our own paths? BOOK MAIL ✨ As always, my imposter syndrome hits every time a gifted book shows up at my door. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to the tagged publishers for these stories I can’t wait to get lost in 💕📚💌 #Bookstagram #Books #BookStack #BookMail #Bookish by @stephsreadingit
📚: The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really, REALLY enjoyed this one! 🥹💕 I was such a sucker for the big-city-girl-meets-small-town-farmer romance, and the grumpy x sunshine, will-they-won’t-they, and insta-love tropes, and it had me kicking my feet! 🫶🏻I loved the romance, the charming little town of Dream Harbor, and the cast of characters that made me want to pack my bags and move there ASAP! My one little complaint? For a book cover that practically SCREAMS fall, I wish there had been even MORE fall vibes throughout the story! 🎃🍁 I’m SO excited to continue this series and see what else Dream Harbor has in store! ☕️📚✨ Have you read The Pumpkin Spice Café? Give me similar recs! #SmallTownRomance #Bookstagram #BookReview #RomanceBooks #DreamHarbor by @stephsreadingit
📚: The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ A cozy little world filled with magic, mythical creatures, jam, cinnamon rolls, and a very cute sunshine-y neighbor?! 🥹🫐 This was such a cute one! I’ve never read a cozy fantasy before, so The Spellshop was definitely a genre opener for me, and I had so much fun getting lost in Kiela’s little magical world. 🪄📚 The whole story felt so sweet, enchanting, and wholesome, and I absolutely LOVED the cozy small-town vibes. The magical creatures were adorable, the cottage garden + jam-making was so charming, and Caz the magically sentient spider plant was honestly one of my favorite parts. 🌱😂 I will say, I went into this expecting the romance to play a bigger role, so I was a little surprised by how secondary it felt. That being said, I still adored Larran and thought he was absolutely precious! 🥰 It did drag a little for me in parts, but overall, this was such a sweet and comforting read. Definitely a fun introduction to cozy fantasy, and I loved getting to escape into this little magical world! Have you read this book?! Thank you SO much to @harpercollins360 for having me at the HC office to celebrate the releases of Halloween Town by Joss Wood and Wild Wicked Mate by Laurie Gilmore! 🎃👻📚✨ I had the BEST time crafting the cutest little ghosty wall decor, watching Halloweentown, and spending the evening with some of my favorite bookish friends! 🥹🖤 I was seriously spoiled all night long, and of course I had a major fangirl moment getting to take photos on the ICONIC HarperCollins staircase! 📚✨ A truly magical (and very spooky 👻) night! 🎃 #Bookstagram #BookishEvents #PublisherEvent #Halloween #Bookish by @stephsreadingit
I just spent the most MAGICAL two weeks exploring Europe! ✈️✨🇮🇪🇬🇧🇫🇷 And of course, while I was away, I HAD to make time for as many bookstores as humanly possible. 📚🤭 Because what’s a European vacation without bringing home an unreasonable amount of books?! 😂 It was so fun seeing different covers of books I know and love, and even seeing popular books in different languages! Here are all the bookstores I got to visit along the way: 🍀 Ireland: @marshslibrary @gutterbookshop @connollybooks @booksupstairs @hodgesfiggis @ulyssesrarebooks_ @dubraybooks @eason_ireland 💂🏻 England: @waterstones 🥖 France: @albinmichel_beauxlivres @librairiealbinmichel Now I just need to figure out where I’m putting all of these books… 😂📚 #Bookstores #Bookstagram #BookShopping #Books #ReadersOfInstagram by @stephsreadingit
