So… you want to start creating content?

Before you worry about cameras, algorithms, followers and going viral, let’s talk about the things that actually matter.

12 things I’ve learnt from creating content.

You know that thing where you say:

“I’ll start when I get an iPhone.”

Then you get the iPhone:

“I need a tripod.”

You get the tripod:

“I need a mic.”

You get the mic…

…and somehow you still haven’t posted. 😭

Start with what you have.

Upgrade as you grow.

Your niche should help people understand what you’re about.

But please don’t turn it into a prison.

I create talking-head videos, relatable content, series, write, sing and create around my church family.

And somehow, people have found me through different parts of who I am.

You’re allowed to have layers.

Because opening your phone every morning and asking:

“What am I posting today?”

…is not a content strategy. 😂

Have a few things you can always come back to.

Your pillars give your creativity somewhere to live.

Go and observe.

What made you stop scrolling?

Why did you watch till the end?

How did they edit that video?

How did they tell that story?

Learn from them.

Borrow the strategy, not their personality.

Because we already have one of them. 😭

Value isn’t always:

“Here are 5 ways to increase your productivity.”

Sometimes value is making someone laugh after a horrible day.

Sometimes it’s telling a story that makes someone feel understood.

Sometimes it’s teaching something.

Sometimes it’s simply saying the thing somebody needed to hear.

Make people feel like their time was well spent.

You have been creating for six months.

They’ve been creating for ten years.

And you’re sitting there asking:

“Why am I not where they are?”

My dear. 😭

Look at how far you have come.

Your first video vs your latest video?

That’s the comparison I want you making.

Your first video might make you cringe in six months.

Congratulations. 😂

That means you’ve improved.

You don’t have to know everything before you start.

Create it.

Watch it.

Learn from it.

Try again.

The experience is the classroom.

One day you’ll post something and get:
