Still smiling after my exhibition opening & album launch on Thursday night ✨

@stephzjohnson made this dress for me using the offcuts of the silk I made my installation out of. She helped me take on the absolutely mammoth task of preparing, burying, dyeing and stitching 250m of silk for my installation at @rha.arts

I wanted the dress to be a bit browner than my installation so I dyed the cloth again using Oak Galls I had collected with @liz.mcmahon.946 - the fabric went sort of gold!

Steph showed up on the day of my opening with this beautiful dress in her basket. I had told her I wanted something whimsical, and she delivered me the most beautiful dress I’ve ever owned. My inner child is so happy!

Steph is an absolute wizard with all things fabric, cloth, costume, textile. And she is a joy and a pleasure to work with.

DIFW26 OFFICIAL EVENT SCHEDULE: Fabric & Figure

Celebrate the intersection of fashion and life drawing in this unique event. Experience a live presentation of original garments by Stephanie Johnson, brought to life through a series of dynamic, timed poses. The audience is invited to observe and draw the designs, exploring the relationship between fabric, form and the figure in an engaging, creative setting. Whether you’re an artist, illustrator, fashion enthusiast or simply curious to try, all are welcome. Some drawing materials will be provided; however, feel free to bring your own.

This moment in time is incredibly special to me. A time I will forever treasure. THANK YOU @teddymcritchiedesign for recording this moment!!!

I had so much doubt in my work - I had many nightmares that I would receive an email to say they made a terrible mistake. They didn’t and I was awarded Runner Up of Avant-garde… wild!!! I was surprised to say the least.

Thank you New Zealand - what a magical place (I actually travelled around Auckland, Waiheke Island, Rotorua, my family hosted me in their wonderful home in Matakana, I took a night bus to Wellington, a Ferry over to Nelson on the South Island to pay tribute to the origins of World of Wearable Art.
I honestly met the most incredible people every step I took!

Thank you to everyone who supported me and thank you to my parents who told me it would be ridiculous not to go. Thank you to my amazing cousins Tia, Mark, Bree, Carrie for helping me get my NZ feet, showing me around your beautiful home and coming to see the show!!

Massive thank you to all the people at WOW who brought this to life, it didn’t look nearly as good on a mannequin in my studio!!!

My piece ‘Inside Out’ worn on the @worldofwearableart stage !

What an honour. What a show!!! Absolutely worth travelling from Ireland to New Zealand to see this phenomenal spectacle in the flesh. Not surprised it was attended by an audience of over 60,000 spectators.

Thank you to everyone at @worldofwearableart for the incredible work - staging, lights, graphics, music, aerialists - I imagine many many rehearsals - to the backstage team taking incredible care of each piece and making everything look its best!
I can absolutely see why it’s a full year of work.

The biggest thank you to my incredible model/performer Misha Ruddlesden @misharuddlesden who brought this piece to life with strength, sophistication & seduction - no easy job and far better than I could have ever dreamed of!!! Also the loveliest person ever ❤️

I’ve never been synonymous with safety - However, I’ve decided to bring out a limited edition of wearables that are definitely meant to be seen.

Using material that reflects with light I wanted to make something that can easily be worn and offer a little extra safety to cyclists, runners etc.
I also wanted to have a design that had absolutely no wasted fabric and was adaptable.

There are two designs (medium and small) - both shapes offer different variations, which are shown (video 2 - medium, video 3 - small)
The variations are created with magnet fastenings, to not disturb the design.

As an avid cyclist I love the idea of having something quick and chic I can throw on, which adds a bit more visibility on these dark days/nights!

These designs are still in the early days so I would love feedback!

I’ve made 3D printed miniatures of myself!

3D printed using PLA filament on the Prusa MK4. 3D scan created using handheld Sense Scanner with credit to my Fabricademy family who kindly scanned me - Aslı Aydın Aksan @asliayd , Riley Cox @marbled.rye , Ray Formilli @jointscience , Jiawen Gong @_jiawengong_ and Machteld Zee @machteldzee x

You may or may not know… I have made some calendars to celebrate the new year & life drawing!

It features a mixture of tasteful nude drawings, fun illustrations and a few surprises - of models from Ireland and further afield!

What an incredible honour it was to have my pieces as the finale in a fashion show in Mexico! These photos were taken by the amazing @regina_cphoto and worn by the stunning @priscilatlaiye

“The Beyond Fashion Runway was held in Puebla and was part of the larger Fab24 - Mexico International Fab Lab Conference that brought together innovators, designers, and makers from around the world. The runway explored the intersection of digital fabrication, sustainability, and digital craftsmanship, showcasing a series of projects by 41 selected emergent designers of various nationalities, including Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Jordan, El Salvador, Spain, Irland, Luxembourg, US, India..
Organized by Fabricademy, in collaboration 3D Fashion Week and Ibero Puebla IDIT with the support of Fab24 and Fab Foundation, the event aimed to support and encourage innovation and sustainability as well as the promotion of traditional crafts, local heritage and technology in the fashion industry.”
