Brighter days. Finally it’s here in physical form. After only seeing it as a pdf on my screen for a couple of years, there’s nothing like holding this new book in my hands. I wanted to create a bedside reader based on the garden essay titles I learned so much from as a young gardener. I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing the essays and taking the photographs. Thank you to @chadjacobsdesign for doing the beautiful illustrations and the @clarksonpotter team for making such a nicely packaged object to hold in your hands. The Gardener’s Mindset is out May 5th and available for pre-orders from your favorite booksellers. #thegardenersmindset by @steporr

Autumn crocus and colchicums. I love the touch of springtime these fall-blooming bulbs create at the end of the season. Order and plant them in late August and they’ll bloom within a month and return each year #autumncrocus #colchicum taken in Cape Cod by @steporr

Lots of beautiful mushrooms but, we only stick to the obvious ones. Most we just admire growing where they are. Thanks you @josiahmayo and @katwrightkatwright for taking me by @steporr

The storm brought a lot of wind but nothing some clippers and staking won’t solve. Grateful for the rain here on the Outer Cape taken in Cape Cod by @steporr

Hollister House, located or a wooded hillside in Washington, CT, is one of the most beautiful gardens in America. The creation of George Schoellkopf and Gerald Incandela over the past 47 years, the English inspired design of yew-buttressed garden rooms, patinaed stonework, and exuberant plantings always inspire and amaze. The garden is open to visitors on select days and is well worth a pilgrimage at any time of year. Thank you to George and his colleagues for a wonderful garden study weekend and to my fellow presenters: @arnemaynardgardendesign @lindseydtaylor @tonybielaczyc Ethan Kauffmann (@stoneleighgarden) and David Kulp (@brandywinecottage) for their inspiring talks. taken in Hollister House Garden by @steporr

Our friends Elspeth Slayter @trillium222 and Murat Recevik @murat.recevik invited us on a foraging trip through the dunes with @elspethhay, author of Feed Us with Trees. Elspeth H. showed us how to look for the best boletes mushrooms, beach plums, and cranberries (not quite ripe yet) as well as explaining the various uses for black cherries, bayberries, and acorns (which figure prominently in her wonderful book). Thank you to the Elspethses and Murat for a memorable morning in this marvelous place. As I always say, plant people are the best people. taken in Cape Cod, Massachussets by @steporr
