Well... HERE. WE. GO! 🎬🎶

I guess it's time to stop talking about doing this and actually do it. 😂

I've spent a lot of time lately writing, researching, experimenting with video, learning new technology, building a website, and figuring out how to turn an idea that's been bouncing around in my head into an actual media company.

And here we are.

Is everything figured out? Hell no! lol

Am I going to make mistakes along the way? Absolutely! Ha!

But I've spent enough years watching other people chase their dreams to know there's a point where you've just got to start chasing your own.

So this is me officially introducing Live Show Life.

I'm not interested in building just another social media account that only posts concert clips and tour announcements. I want to build something that actually contributes to the live music community.

I don't expect to do it alone.

I'm going to need ideas, feedback, interesting people willing to share their stories, and some talented folks who want to help build this thing.

So here's my first request: Watch the video, tell me what you think, and let me know what kinds of stories you think aren't getting enough attention.

I've got plenty of ideas. But some of the best ones probably haven't crossed my path yet.

Let's see where this goes.

🎶 Live Show Life. The show is only part of the story.

@deadnorthband : @koramelia & @luke.pascot performed last night at @icehousempls “PSYCHO”
It was my first time seeing and hearing the duo perform. I had been hearing about them from my @billystrings touring family @napontc & @cnapont
The duo played a no cover live show that I swear someone told them I was coming, they covered all my favorite tunes from @lsparks3 Larry Sparks, @gratefuldead to @johnnyblueskies and @billystrings with some @officialallmanbrothers , and @aliceinchains in the mix.
I plan to sit down with the two and get into their story soon. Stay tuned. #billystrings #sturgillsimpson #jerrygarcia #laynestaley #larrysparks by @steve.kallsen

🎶 SEEKING STORIES!

We are building Live Show Life., an independent media company covering everything surrounding live music, not just what happens onstage.

One of our goals is to build a network of local contributors and city guides across the country, sharing stories about the artists, fans, venues, road trips, and communities that make live music special.

And I’m looking for people who might want to be part of it!

Here’s the cool thing. If you’re already going to shows, taking pictures, shooting videos, and posting about your experiences, you’re probably doing everything I’m looking for.

You keep doing your thing. I’ll handle the research, writing, and publishing. With your permission, we’d feature your experiences and link directly to your original posts, helping bring new people to your content.

I’m starting with Pittsburgh as a pilot, with plans to expand into other cities. And if you travel to shows, even better!

As the company grows, I’d love to develop paid opportunities for contributors, too.

Interested? Drop your city in the comments, tell me what shows you follow, or send me a message.

Know someone who’d be a great fit? Tag them!

Funny how making a video about all the work that goes into a concert has reminded me how much work goes into making a video. On a much smaller scale, of course. 😂

A little context about these recent reels. They’ve been practice runs while I teach myself Adobe Premiere on my iPhone. I’m also testing out a new light and wireless lavalier microphone for the first time.

Lots of trial and error, re-recording, editing, and figuring things out as I go. A couple minutes of video can take a surprising amount of time when you’re learning something new.

But there’s a bigger reason I’m putting in the time.

With Live Show Life, I want to tell stories about the entire world surrounding live music.

I’m fascinated by what happens in the lives and careers of the biggest artists in the world. But I’m even more interested in the musicians working their asses off trying to get there.

The bands traveling from city to city, hauling equipment, selling their own merchandise, trying to make enough money to keep doing what they love. The financial risks, the sacrifices, the occasional big breaks, and everything that happens between shows.

And I won’t forget the people making it all possible. Managers, promoters, venue owners/operarors, sound engineers, lighting crews, stagehands, and all the others whose names most of us never know.

Of course, there’s also us. The fans. The people who travel hundreds of miles, spend money we probably shouldn’t, and plan our lives around the next concert. 😂

There’s a whole business, culture, and community surrounding live music that deserves more attention.

I’m going to keep working on the filming, editing, and storytelling as Live Show Life grows. Some of these early attempts will probably be a little rough around the edges. That’s part of learning.

But I’ve got the idea, the format, a network lot of people and stories I want to tell.
And I’m looking forward to getting out there and sharing them. Because… there’s more to the music than what’s on stage.

Something I’ve learned raising a daughter is that you can give them all the advice in the world, but eventually they have to figure things out for themselves. And that’s exactly how it should be.

I want my daughter @rileytanghe to be comfortable being herself, whether she’s surrounded by friends or walking into a room full of complete strangers.

To have the guts to try something new, the curiosity to keep learning, and enough respect for others to actually listen to what they have to say.

But I also want her to recognize when someone doesn’t deserve her time or energy.

Not every argument needs to be won. Not every opinion deserves a response. And sure as hell not everyone’s approval is worth chasing.

Watching my daughter grow into her own person has been pretty damn incredible. She’s got her own opinions, ideas, and ways of doing things. And believe me, she’s not afraid to let me know when she disagrees with Dad! 😂

TBH: Wouldn’t have it any other way.

These seven lessons are things I hope stay with her, but they’re also pretty good reminders for the rest of us.
What am I forgetting or should I add? #dadanddaughter #daddysgirl #lifelessons #raisethebar #daughter

@front.porch.music took to the stage last night at @dayblockbrewing as the headliner with support by Minnesota locals @triplefiddle (who sound dayum fine! I need to catch them again!).
This wasn’t the first time Front Porch has played in the Twin Cities, and I have a feeling it won’t be their last!
Traditional / fastgrass with banjo bowing that I’ve never seen done before and the feet start to stomp!

These fine pickin fellas are playing tonight in Eau Claire WI at the @themousetraptavern Get tickets and see where they play near you next here: https://front-porch-music.com
