I could kick myself for not going to the event for this album to meet her in person. But, I did receive this video message from Dolly. I had the opportunity to work an album she was part of when I worked at UMG in 2007, and then again in 2023 while at Apple for her album Rockstar. A big star like this who took the time to personalize a video message to someone she’s never met, is another reason why she was so beloved. Had such a blast watching Ethan fill in on guitar with Voidletter. The crazy part is that the singer’s dad and I have known each other for a couple of decades and our kids happened to meet each other without our knowledge. It’s a small world. One of my favorite parts of the Stapleton show was how minimalistic the production was. No overly flashy lighting, no video segments, no pyro, no special effects of any kind. That night, it was about the music. It was simple. For a stadium show it’s a risk. But, with talent of that level, you really don’t want or need anything else.
