Heard Becky G’s lullaby she wrote for her nephew and played it on repeat ✨

I wrote down the lyrics for the girl version, listened and read them approximately 4,000 times and now l’ve got it down 💜

Estela is obviously a fan, singing along 🤗

Do I sing? No (so sorry for exposing your ears 🫣)
Do I speak Spanish fluently? Also no
Pero, I’m doing both por mi preciosa

You have no idea how excited I am about this!

The fact that my Estela’s first word was a Spanish word tells me that what I am doing is working!

It tells me that I don’t have to speak Spanish fluently in order for her to pick up on Spanish.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m speaking Spanish any opportunity I get with the minimal vocabulary I have.

I’m putting in the work, but how amazing to know I don’t have to know it all to teach her.

Validation from the caption generation picking up on her saying “Gato” so I know it’s not just in my head!

Estela is a few days away from her first birthday and the words we’re hearing her say:
Luna 🌙
Banana 🍌
Gato 🐈
No 😂
Hola 👋

How is my baby turning ONE
tomorrow?!

This year has gone by in the blink of an eye. She’s gone from a tiny newborn to a little girl exploring the world, and l’ve been growing alongside her.

One year of motherhood, so many firsts, and the beginning of learning Spanish together.

I have NEVER take a Spanish class so when I tell you I started with no vocabulary, I mean it.

Hola, audio, and counting… sure because I learned them in like 2nd grade, 30 years ago 🫣

So deciding to learn Spanish at 36 years old was a total mindset shift. I can learn Spanish! I am learning Spanish!

Am I going to mess up? ¡Sí!
Am I going to feel dumb? ¡Sí!

Spanish Phrases 🛁

I’m learning Spanish alongside my baby girl ❤️

We’re adding a little Spanish (un poco de español) into every activity we’re doing so it’s consistently showing up for both of us

Here are a few Spanish phrases I’ve started practicing during our bath time routine:

Es hora del baño = It’s bath time
Vamos a bañarnos = Let’s take a bath
Mira las burbujas = Look at the bubbles
¿Está rica el agua? = Does the water feel good?
Cierra los ojos = Close your eyes
Ya terminamos = We’re all done

Yep... this is one of those things that makes Spanish learning a little confusing.

The tricky part is that they’re not direct translations of “for.” But they both can translate to “for” depending on the context, and they’re also used in situations where English uses completely different words.

I’m learning to think of them more like this:
PARA - > for something / moving toward someone or something
POR -> because of someone or something

Definitely not the whole story, but it’s giving me a starting point instead of trying to memorize every rule at once. 🧠

She’s still mastering the whole “standing up” thing... but apparently “salta, salta, arriba” is the encouragement she needs!

It you’re learning Spanish with Us
Salta = jump and arriba = up

I love that she’s learning these little words through things she’s already doing and watching. It really doesn’t have to be complicated it just has to be consistent.
