VC / angel investor turned philosopher, Naval Ravikant shares worthwhile counsel chapter after chapter. Appreciation for author Eric Jorgensen who painstakingly collected the material from a variety of sources and lays out Naval’s wisdom for the reader to enjoy and benefit from.

Rohr speaks plainly about the shift one can notice in the second half of life. That our initial goal is to build a strong identity or “container”, the second half is to find the contents that the container was meant to hold. Another way of putting it is discovering the script, and then actually writing it and owning it.

Short read but nonetheless filled with powerful distinctions that I’m finding immediately applicable.

Forget where I heard about this book recommendation but am glad I added it to my shortlist and read it. // recommend // taken in Sammamish, Washington by @steven.fielding

My dad was a surgeon.

He saved lives. He did cancer research.

He gave everything to his work.

And I was sent to boarding school at 10.

He wasn’t a bad father.

He was a man of his time, loving the only way he knew.

But a boy still feels the gap.

On @thedadmanual with my friend Tony Cooper, I talk about what I learned from that gap – and what I chose to do differently with Nick and Max.

The interior work is the fatherhood work.

Tagged many pages in the book. Will reread in the future. Very few get dropped into that category. taken in Sammamish, Washington by @steven.fielding

A heartbreaking story which illuminates the precursors for the abolitionist and civil/human rights movement. It was a stark reminder of the history of my beloved, home away from home Barbados.🇧🇧
The topic is too large to encapsulate in a caption, I’ll just say my heart is sensitive to the island’s history and my spiritual roots are planted in Cattlewash on the East Coast of BIM.
Thank you @siddharth.kara for your tenacity gathering the story together and to @ryanholiday for including the book in your recommendations. taken in Sammamish, Washington by @steven.fielding

“You gotta walk through the door of vulnerability to get to trust.”

Bust through that door, it’s worth it.

Your life may depend on it. taken in Sammamish, Washington by @steven.fielding

Such a great read. An honest and heartfelt inventory of life thus far in all its messiness that this human experience delivers us to learn and grow from. And a reminder of the healing properties of time in nature to show us how to notice deep gratitude for the simplest of things.
✨
Highly recommend picking this book up. Well done and thank you to @melissaarnot for sharing.

Some of these titles I had on my shelf already and it felt like the time is ripe to read them. Several others are recent finds through recommendations from @ryanholiday @seanwwhalen @melissaarnot @profgalloway @realamyedwards and others.
🪶
I decided to add in some fiction into the mix this year which feels exciting to me - as a fan of the Terminal List series, Cry Havoc by @jackcarrusa is in the line up.
🪶
Of course, personal development is well represented. One can’t go wrong learning from Jungian expert James Hollis.
🪶
If you have additional “must read” titles, feel free to share. I’ll soon drop a post about the titles read in 2025 with my top 4 picks and associated learnings. Stay tuned.
