At some point I had planned to post a selfie every day for a year. That absolute did not happen, and I'm not even sure if I've posted a selfie since I had the idea who knows how long ago, so I think I'll give up on that idea and, instead, just work on sharing and enjoying more.

I am leaving home.
When I land, I will be home.
Then I'll take a train home, and in the morning I'll take another train home.
I'll spend a week there before heading back home.

It is a wonder to me how many places can be home -- how many places and people can inspire homesickness. I am very lucky to find myself home so often and incredibly lucky to find myself always missing home. Tonight, whether you long for a home that is no longer or a home that is yet to be (or perhaps both), I hope you and those you may be with find a way to be home.

I HAVE CREATED SUBCOOLED WATER!!
I've never seen this before and am frankly surprised to see it now!
What's up: I placed this water in the freezer. Upon checking it, I saw that some bottles were frozen solid while others were fully liquid. I assumed this had to do with air flow patterns in a freezer stuffed to the gills with bottled water. Then I picked one up and put it down, followed by the wave you see that follows.

What happens is the becomes cold, well below freezing temperatures. However, for whatever reason, the ice crystal doesn't ever get a chance to "seed", so it just becomes water that is below its freezing point. However, if the sub-cooled water is disturbed, it may find opportunity to generate the first bit of crystal, at which point the rest of the water can build off that initial seed. As a result, you see a wave pass through as the clear water becomes semi-opaque ice.

I've known this was possible for a long time, but had never seen it in person. What a delightful surprise.

(I hope you are also amused that I was not able to repeat it as easily on purpose. I am curious if the warmth of my hands made it less likely to seed at the points of contact, butnI do not know!) taken in Houston, Texas by @stevenahsalt
