An Openness to Encounter
One question leaning to the next
1 thing leading to another

“In vacuum alone motion becomes possible. One who could make of himself a vacuum into which others might freely enter would become master of all situations.”

Ubuntu Fine Art needs to raise $15,000 over the next two months to remain open. Several grants I was expecting this year did not come through, and the gallery is behind on its obligations. To raise funds, I wrote a book.

Photography: A Way of Seeing. $20 digital download at ubuntufa.com. My challenge to my community: help me reach 500 to 1,000 downloads over the next two months.

I am not asking for charity, though I will receive it. I am asking for my skills to be put to use. Here is how you can do that:

Buy the eBook. Link in bio.

Book a tour. An Openness to Encounter guided tour with the artist. $25 per person, for groups of up to 20. Special group rates for groups larger than 15.

Bring me to your institution. Lectures, guest teaching, and facilitation on photography, fine art printmaking, and An Openness to Encounter.

Rent the space. The most beautiful gallery space in the City of Philadelphia. $350 per hour with a two-hour minimum, setup and breakdown hours included.

Give directly. A gift of any size keeps this space open to everyone who walks in. Visit the Give tab at ubuntufa.com.

I also welcome sponsorship toward a physical print edition of this book.

Every booking and gift counts toward the goal. This gallery is a temporary sanctuary from a world that does not value the beauty of our shared humanity. Help me keep it standing, and thank you for being part of the we.

Thank You, to those who have already gave a gift and bought the ebook. 6 downloads with 994 to go…

Let’s make this jawn go viral!

“Black photographers are the narrative! How do yall know what’s hot, unless we snap it?”

Every month is Black History Month!

5 years ago I left my cushy six figure, fully remote, software engineer job at Booz Allen To embark on the journey to @ubuntufineart I had no clue I’d be creating my dream job for which I am uniquely qualified.

Through the pressures of trials and the ebbs that flow, I have forged myself into a brilliant multidisciplinary artist. I believe that I will grow to be one of the most consequential photographers of the 21st century.

I am not moved by fear, I push through it.
I am not moved by validation, I do not care how it looks.
I am only moved by the desire to keep going.

“In vacuum alone motion becomes possible. One who could make of himself a vacuum into which others might freely enter would become master of all situations.” Okakura Kakuzo The Book of Tea, 1906

Within the abode of beauty that is Ubuntu Fine Art, I have become that vacuum, and I welcome all to enter freely.

Join me Saturday October 17th and help me celebrate the freedom of fearlessness!

I love the proclivities of the human. The beauty the lie is our undeniable Unique Ways of Seeing.

“With race, as with the individual, it is not the accumulation of extraneous knowledge, but the realization of the self within, that constitutes true progress. - Okakura Kakuzo - “The Awakening of Japan” by @stevencwtaylor
