Sixteen of my favourite wildlife photographs, including the one chosen by @cwf_fcf (Canadian Wildlife Federation) as their 2026 'Reflections of Nature' grand prize winning image.

I'll be at the show at @o_connorgallery in lovely Gananoque, ON on the 12th and again on the 15th (and likely the 13th and other dates to be decided 😊), hope to see you there. The show runs until nearly the end of October.

Not a great shot but I love the misleading
perspective; here making it look like an aircraft to aircraft photo (I wish). But nope, I was on the ground and the cloud bank way way out on the lake at the horizon.

The Nanchang CJ6 was a Chinese trainer aircraft built in the late '50s; not to be confused, apparently, with a Russian built aircraft that looked almost identical, the Yak 18A. The Chinese aircraft however was a separate Chinese design. (The Russian plane was also a trainer but North Korea modified it during the Korean War to drop bombs).

The pilot here is Canadian Dan Fortin, former military fly guy and now airshow acrobatics fly guy.

A visitor to my balcony garden yesterday morning.
One of our sky's most talented predators. And ever so beautiful.
I'm very encouraged this year by the abundance of insect life in my garden after a very slow start for some reason -- tho I'm thinking a profusion of Summersweet bush blooms in the last couple of weeks beautifully scent-broadcast very loudly that lunch is now served!
As I had to wade into and lean into a bunch of dahlia and rose of sharon blooms in a very tight space to get this photo, three bumble bees bounced off my head; such a glorious sensation -- boink :) Oh and the much maligned yellow jackets are starting to appear as the workers start to leave the colonies in search of sugar as their food source 'at home' begins to dry up; and they were buzzing about me as well and nary a sting as I ignored them so as to not engage their aggression by swatting at them. Insects are people too!

After a whopping two days running week last week, of 8km (2x4km) I thought I'd do a Sunday 'long' run today and ran 5km -- the distance at which 'long distance running' begins.
Mostly done to shut the fuck up my Garmin watch's race predictor which kept telling me I could run a 5km in 26 minutes. Based on years old historical data, of course so thought I'd give it some more contemporary data.
But really I report the following data to annoy a couple of people (you know who you are 😀) -- 5km run today was completed in just a (laboured) breath short of 33 minutes.
That's pretty much way, way too fast for a run journey beginning -- consider a slow run pace suggested by a coach, when marathon training can be "10 minute kms or slower." But, truly, unless slowed by dead muscles and a conked out cardio system (eg exhaustion), going very slow simply feels so awkward as to screw up my form. Yah, I know. A couple of sports docs, countless therapists of the physical kind, and at least one coach, don't believe me either.
My Garmin watch gives summaries of all sorts of data. Of note it tells me I've "overreached" on exercise today. I'm blaming that 7km cool down walk. [The activities are listed in reverse order in the image]
Here now to attempt some accountability of self I put in writing the goals and objectives, etc.
Strategy: Humans are born to move. I must move
Vision: BQ marathons
Mission: Move! (run, walk, build strength and flexibility)
Goal: Run a marathon before/ year 70
Objectives: daily running and gym regimes; get a coach, follow training programs; participate in 'fun runs' of various distances, e.g. Ottawa 10km or the like next spring, etc.
