We’ve looked up to find meaning since the beginning. Stars and celestials are a recurring theme in my work, and illuminate layers of ourselves typically overlooked. Study stars when lost.

Mabon arrives as a wind, running her wispy fingers through the trees, softening the sun, and with it, ushers in the last harvest.

Summer turns toward Autumn, and I’m drawn inward again. A few things surrounding the studio lately: a magic corner, flowers from the garden, graphite studies on paper, Ruth’s scythe in Boaz’s field, and Gibran’s thoughts on work. by @steventachauer

I’ve always had an affinity for ferns. They are beautifully ancient; living fossils of a much older world. And I’ve always been drawn to things that carry a sense of depth and time.

The way a fern unfurls from a spiral, its leaves multiplying into intricate, densely patterned forms is a reminder that ornamentation is already there in nature.

I think a lot about the breadth of my practice, and about how, as creatives, we’re often encouraged to distill ourselves into a single discipline, aesthetic, or recognizable output. I’ve never really been interested in doing that.

I work across art, identity, illustration, typography, art direction, curation, and image-making. The mediums change, but my instinct and sensibility is a throughline.

I build worlds through detail, texture, motif, form, colour, materiality, layering, writing, and storytelling. For me, art and design are not separate practices, but different expressions of the same impulse — one that I’ve always known, that is to look closely, make meaning, and craft a world with depth and soul.

These are fragments from my studio. Client work, personal work, studies, artworks, images, and pieces of my practice that continue to shape-shift.

Regina Florum — The Flower Queen

Crafting intricate worlds that feel as though they’ve existed long before they’re encountered is central to my work. These visuals hold their own symbology, ornament, and mythology, creating a window to another time and place. Depth across texture, writing, and imagery.

The spirit of the solstice.

Litha is rooted, radiant, and deeply connected to the rhythms of the earth. A reminder that we are shaped by cycles, of blooming, abundance, rest, and renewal.

I’ve always been drawn to the old world traditions that honoured the land as a living presence; marking the seasons as a way of remembering our place within the natural world.

This piece reflects on the wise woman archetype — the quiet knowing, beauty, and abundance found in harmony with the natural world. by @steventachauer

On press for ISLANDS.

The process of story, artwork, reference, and colour coming together pre-bound. Throughout the zine, blue becomes a thread that connects place and memory — drawing from the Pacific and the saturated palettes of Gauguin’s work, where the ocean is not just a setting, but a presence.

Recently, I spoke with Native Hut about the creative process behind ISLANDS.

Every symbol begins with raw sketches and observation.

For Terra, I studied the forms, rhythms, and symbolism of the desert landscape and the rituals of wellness.

Two birds rise around a palm, forming a protective canopy and a mark that speaks to sanctuary, balance, and rejuvenation. My process starts by hand, and what begins as loose lines and intuition gradually transforms into something enduring.
