A benefit of a low water year is that Cross Mountain Gorge is running at a reasonable level and we have the motivation to find good water. I appreciate the water forcing us to explore. by @stever80

I was recently asked: When did you get into Data Science?
I was standing on this rock.
In Zion. 6 years ago.
The decision was much less about Zion or the rock - both were just observers to me in the middle of one heck of a month:
I blew up my car’s engine
I had to move as our landlord was selling our apartment
2 bosses left from our small property
Oh, more would happen:
I wouldn't get a promotion that I deserved
I would get broken up with
I would bury my new car keys at the bottom of snow bank
I would be denied a different promotion

I am thankful for that month. I stood on that rock and knew something had to and was going to change. I did.

I got to stand on that same rock 7 weeks ago on a trip to Zion with my mom and sister. I was in a wildly different place. I am grateful for what brought me there; it sucked at the time, but I am grateful for it.

On that note, Happy Winter Solstice or the longest night of the year. It only gets brighter from here. by @stever80

I've run Westwater so many times without having any issues with Skull... until October. I went in lazy and cocky; I wound up humbled and wet.

Still a great trip and I hope to get redemption this Spring.

I remember hearing that Buddhist monks would shave their heads on a new moon as a way to shed the old for the new moon (or month). I thought this was cool, so I shed my winter look with the New Moon on Thursday.
