ALWAYS accepting new clients. Boston your elevated barbering experience is right here #Boston #bostonbarbers #menshair by @steves_535

If you’re still waving your scissors around your client’s face every time you comb their hair, we need to fix that. ✂️

Palming your shears might look like a fancy barber trick, but it’s actually one of the most useful fundamentals you can learn.

It keeps your client safe, gives you better control of your comb, and makes clean sectioning a whole lot easier.

I’m making haircutting easy until I hit 100,000 followers, one technique at a time.

Here’s your homework: Grab your shears, practice flipping them back into your hand, and get comfortable switching between cutting and combing.

Try it out and tell me how you did in the comments. If there’s another technique you’ve been struggling with, let me know. I’ll make a video breaking it down.

Want to take your haircutting to the next level? I teach the fundamentals that make everything else easier. DM me for 1:1 or small-group education, or check the link in my bio for upcoming hands-on classes.

Been cutting hair forever and one side of your outline is still round while the other’s square? Let’s fix that.

When you grab the hair, it’s easy to twist it, overdirect it, or add elevation without realizing. You cut what looks like a clean line, let go, and suddenly it’s crooked.

Pick a visual guide, comb the hair into natural fall, and let it hang while you freehand your line. Know where you’re cutting before you start chasing both sides shorter.

Save this for your next haircut. And if you’re tired of guessing behind the chair, DM me about one-on-one or small group education. Let’s get you cutting with confidence.

If you’re getting lost before you even start cutting, let’s make sectioning easier.

A clean horseshoe section separates the top from the sides and gives you a plan for the haircut.

I start on my strong side, usually at the corner of the recession, and work toward the back. Then I section across the back, finish my weaker side, and comb everything clean before clipping it away.

Take a little extra time here. It’s much easier to stay organized than keep figuring out where you are halfway through a haircut.

Save this for your next practice session. Let me know what you want to learn next, and follow for more haircutting made easy.

If your point cutting keeps leaving holes in your haircuts, you’re probably going too deep. ✂️

Start by working just into the ends. You can always take more weight out, but you can’t put it back once you’ve cut a hole.

Small, controlled cuts. Check your work before going back for more.

What gives you the most trouble with point cutting—taking out too much or feeling like you’re not doing anything? Tell me below 👇

Day 3 of Old Dog, New Tricks — where I make haircutting easier for you until I hit 100,000 followers. ✂️

If your scissor-over-comb work looks like you’re chewing through the hair, we need to talk about your thumb.

One of the biggest mistakes I see barbers make is moving their entire hand instead of isolating their thumb when opening and closing their scissors.

The good news? You can fix it with a little practice.

Here are three simple exercises you can do to build better control, strengthen your hand, and make your scissor-over-comb work smoother and more consistent.

And the best part? You can practice while you’re sitting on the couch doomscrolling. 😂

Better technique doesn’t come from working harder. It comes from practicing smarter.

If you’re struggling with your scissor work and tired of feeling like you’re fighting your tools, I can help.

DAY 2 — OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS ✂️

Haircutting shouldn’t leave you feeling like you need a chiropractor at the end of the day.

If your back, shoulders, and neck are killing you after a full day behind the chair, there’s a good chance your body positioning needs some work.

Keep your shoulders level, position your body properly, and adjust the chair height instead of constantly bending and reaching.

These might seem like small adjustments, but over the course of a 20- or 30-year career, they make a huge difference.

I’m making haircutting easier, one day at a time, until we hit 100K followers.

📩 Barbers: Want to improve your skills without overcomplicating everything? DM me EDUCATION for classes and 1:1 training.

Follow along for Day 3. We’ve got plenty more to cover.

DAY 1: OLD DOG, NEW TRICKS ✂️

Struggling to cut a clean, consistent line across the top of the head?

Sometimes it’s the smallest adjustments that make the biggest difference.

Instead of just closing your shears straight across, try pulling them back slightly as you close. This little adjustment can help you create a cleaner line without having to go back and fix your work.

Haircutting doesn’t have to be complicated. I’m here to make it easier.

I’m sharing one simple tip at a time until we hit 100K followers. Follow along and let’s get better together.

Growing your hair out doesn’t mean you stop getting haircuts. It means you start getting haircuts with a different goal in mind.

My client and I have been working toward a modern mullet for the last few months, making adjustments along the way as his hair gets longer.

He’s been wearing it with a side part, but today we’re going to see if we can push everything straight back and create a little more flow.

The key to growing your hair out is having a plan. Every haircut should get you closer to the goal, not set you back three months.

💈 BOSTON CLIENTS: Thinking about growing your hair out or changing your style? Come see me. We’ll put a plan together and get you there. Book through the link in my bio.

✂️ BARBERS: If you’re struggling to help your clients transition between hairstyles, that’s something you need to learn. It’s how you build long-term relationships and keep clients in your chair. DM me for education.
