HOLY SMOKE, HE'S A TOON!

I pulled lots of stuff from the manga, but there are obviously a lot of homages to face faults from classic animation in here. I'm curious to which ones you may recognize!

Attempting to break out of an endless cycle on a prison planet, Rick and Morty try out being a bunch of different species in this montage from the episode "Mortgully: The Last Rickforest".

I storyboarded this sequence, and I was directed by @daniel.david.cole, who helped set up some of these shots, and also boarded the "Hakuna Matata" esque time jump.

Never thought I'd be confident enough to draw birds in animation, but this show has given me plenty of chances to refine those skills. When I think about that, I don't think I had too much experience with drawing animals in animation at all. This episode was truly a test.

"Mortgully: The Last Rickforest" was the third episode I storyboarded on for Rick and Morty Season 9, and it was a colossal undertaking.

Director @daniel.david.cole really is a visionary and was the reason we could hit the ground running on this episode, especially on sequences like this that laid out the important beats of the story. All the while being economical with the backgrounds and shots used.

I really enjoy the cycle of predators here. That sequence and the panning shot of them walking up the beach are 2 of my favorite scenes to have drawn. Also, Morty makes for cute animal drawings.

Another sequence I did the storyboards for in"A Ricker Runs Through It".

Trying to make centrifugal work and look convincing was a challenge, but @fill.marc is an action animation pro and he helped a lot with some of these angles and poses.

The first sequence I ever boarded for "A Ricker Runs Through It" An alien IT Guy made of cloud possesses Jerry's body, and enjoys the sensnation of senses of a being with mass.

I watched so many videos of car washes, and eventually took mine in for reference material.

The B Plot of "Rick Fu Hustle" was Jerry buying a faulty pool cleaning robot, and eventually having an intimate affair with it. Perfectly natural.

This was the brain child of @daniel.david.cole and I was tasked with fleshing it out (poor choice of words). I think we wanted to see what we could get away with and apparently it was everything.

Another sequence from "Rick Fu Hustle." The final version of the episode differs a bit from the boards as some dialogue was cut for time, hence some hook ups not quite hooking up.

Youtube really comes in handy when you need reference for Tai Chi.

@fill.marc directed me and even helped plus up a few poses. He did a great job with the Death Punch in the opening act, and I did my best to capture his approach as well as pay homage to Kill Bill Vol. 2. @daniel.david.cole
Also touched this up with some background elements.

Season 9 of Rick and Morty has been airing on Adult Swim and HBO Max! Time to post some boards!

In "Rick Fu Hustle" Rick has been death punched by a kung fu master, and cannot take more than 5 steps forward without his heart exploding. To Morty's dismay, he persists on using science to undo the process, as well as walking backwards a bunch.

Many thanks to @fill.marc on his direction and bits of clean up on this. Shout out to @daniel.david.cole for stepping in for him towards the end.

To perfectly capture the movement of Xerox rick wagging his pickle around I had to reenact that movement at my desk countless times to fully comprehend the hip movement. Clothes on of course.
