I am chronically ill and like to joke at my own shortcomings. I’m a momma to an awesome little dude, who’s teaching me to laugh at everything!

I painted @mysticmenageriecollectibles another pair of Vans! Paying homage to his love of both the Pokémon games and cards! His favorite Pokémon is Feraligatr, and Krookodile seemed like he’d be a worthy opponent. We did have to use the original Feraligatr with the booty! The Psyduck and Ivysaur on the heels represent myself and our boy. And the glitter is a nod to the holographic cards, that he loves! I had a lot of fun with the characters and using my new favorite tool, the nail art detail brush! #paintedshoes #vans #pokemonart #feraligatr #Pokemon by @stickabookmomma

I painted a pair of my old boots to give them some new life. There’s something magical about an Arizona sunset that soothes my chaotic soul. My life is hectic, to say the least. But for a couple of beautiful, prismatic, minutes I feel tranquility. Even amongst the wildness ensuing in my home. No matter where life takes me, I will never forget the particular magic an Arizona sunset has. #shoecontest25 #arizona #arizonasunset #paintedshoes #shuttleart by @stickabookmomma

This last year has been the most challenging year we have faced, individually and as a family. I suffered two separate accounts of pulmonary embolism, the first one almost taking my life, and giving me a life long, severe blood clotting disorder. We had dreams we had to postpone. We had to say goodbye to our beautiful old pup, Luci. We had to move into less than optimal living conditions due to needing to be closer to better medical care. We’ve felt grief, and suffered lows that we couldn’t fathom. But we also gained the goodest boy. We’ve made exciting plans for the future, and have put things in motion to make them happen. We’ve had the opportunity to live a more minimalistic life. We’ve seen growth in all of us, especially the boy. I’ve started to live a healthier life, and work toward a goal, for the first time in years. We may have been knocked down relentlessly, but every time we got back up. The hard times will ebb and flow but so will the good. by @stickabookmomma

I started writing again in an attempt to cope with the volatility of my health as of late. I now am adorned with a heart monitor, and a PICC line. Not the armor I thought I’d wear at this age, but it’s what my body needs. #poetry #chronicillness #potssyndrome #edser #mcas #pcos #facetjointarthritis #piccline #heartmonitor #syncope #invisibleillness #disabilities #disabilityawareness.
A Relic Anew
If a body is a temple,
Mine has long ago been abandoned.
Scattered with tokens,
Memories from a religion lost to the soil.

Its walls grow brittle,
Outside elements take their toll on the reliquary.
The frame itself weakens,
Every silent imperfection screams for repair.

Any remaining hinges creak,
Begging for someone to once again open their doors.
All the metal oxidizes,
Neither the beautiful nor the functional are safe from time.

Tiles crack beneath feet,
The foundation sinks back into the earth.
She wishes to return,
To be one with the gods she once praised.

Though the decay carries on,
New life can be found in the aging halls.
Vegetation takes hold,
The earth providing support to the crumbling structure.

Moss brings warmth,
A much needed comfort amongst the cold stone.
Wildflowers bloom,
Bringing back the color that was lost long ago.

The new growth takes,
Using the old structures to grow higher and stronger.
Leeching its nutrients,
From the ground it unwillingly shares.

The new growth gives,
Creating a beautiful space yet again.
A new religion is born,
The worshippers are anyone willing to listen the hymns of nature.

Decay is inevitable,
The passage of time is unavoidable.
But my temple persists,
If only to serve its new gods. by @stickabookmomma

I can do hard things! This is a continuous glucose monitor that I was prescribed to wear to track my hypoglycemia. For those who don’t know, hypoglycemia is when you struggle keeping your blood sugar from dropping too low. I’ve had hypoglycemia since I was a teen, but my pregnancy made it really bad and it hasn’t gone back to it’s pre-pregnancy normal. It’s gotten to the point where my dr and I decided I need more tracking than the finger stick method allows. And, if you know me, you know I’m not a fan of needles. So when I saw the needle I needed to stab myself with for this I freaked out a bit. It only took me half an hour to work up the courage to pop this sucker on! And it took a young Michelle like 4 hours to use nasal spray the first time! This is your reminder that you can do hard things too! by @stickabookmomma

AI may be iffy, but as an artist I like to see it as inspiration more than anything. Plus these portraits gave me a great confidence boost! And this exhausted momma needed a boost! by @stickabookmomma

Had a wonderful thanksgiving with my family! This year we were sick, so we stayed home and I got to cook a thanksgiving meal myself! We missed our family, but it was a lovely day nonetheless! by @stickabookmomma

I love these Dr. Martens! A shoe that actually fits my AFOs and makes me feel cool while wearing them! Having hEDS means I need a lot of extra support, usually through braces and other aids. I sometimes have a hard time accepting my disability, and my need for the many braces I have. Having a shoe that makes me feel cool wearing much needed medical equipment, makes such a huge difference! by @stickabookmomma

My little IV is nearing 4 months old now, and becoming such a beautiful human! He’s super sweet, loving, and smart. Not to mention, super cute! I got this Ivy tattoo for him by the amazing David! Thank you again, for the beautiful tattoo! My little guy noticed it yesterday, and smiled at it, so it’s definitely IV approved! by @stickabookmomma
