I had the pleasure of meeting Lena, Nico and Marie at the first of two training camps with @germany_boxlacrosse held in Bad Emstal, Germany this past November. Their parents run the bistro that backdrops the arena so the kids were present the whole weekend.

They were clearly intrigued by this new and exciting looking sport so after our practice I invited them to learn the basics of the game with me: passing, catching, ground balls and shooting. They eagerly joined and after two whole hours they were still going strong and having a blast. The next day they told me to come into the bistro for a surprise, and showered me with drawings they had made for me as a thank you for teaching them the evening before.

After our tryouts ended and I was on my way home, an idea popped into my head. What if I were able to gift these kids their very own lacrosse sticks at the next tryout held there in February? I got in touch with @bwitm1 of @thegoodstick.co who graciously offered to sell me three complete beginner sticks unstrung for 100€. Huge shoutout to Brian, without whom I wouldn’t have been able to see this through.

Having inquired about the kids’ favorite colors, I was able to string each stick up with identical functional beginner-friendly pockets. I also added three zones of tape to each shaft to highlight hand placement locations for passing and catching and as a final personalized touch added their names with a marker.

When I surprised the kids with their sticks at the February tryout they were overjoyed and couldn’t wait to try them out. Naturally, we spent another great practice session together breaking them in. Before I left I made the three of them pinky promise me one thing: Use these sticks as much as you possibly can. They didn’t hesitate to agree.

It brings me so much joy to be able to share this beautiful game that means so much to me with other people, even more so when I see them stick with it. As a youth coach here in Europe I know firsthand how hard it can be to get quality sticks into kids’ hands, so this was such a special project for me. I love lacrosse. Now these kids do too. @ecdlax DNA 2.0 strung up with @lukesidewallker’s 9D Jedi mesh in a snappy mid-high pocket with an (in my opinion) entirely underrated color combo 🌲🏆

Went standard to inside on the sidewall with the goal of tapering off the pocket towards the bottom, in order to funnel the ball up into the sweet spot

Strung this up as a cheeky tester using a customer’s head before getting to their string job - think it turned out real nice taken in Berlin, Germany by @stickboy_strings

Personal @gaitlaxofficial Torq strung up with @antrealax future mesh in a shifty mid-high box-style pocket, feat. three shooters and a nylon for a bit of added snap on release.

This stuff is awesome, it’s like if armor mesh and standard mesh had a baby, getting the best of both worlds! It’s got the stringability of normal diamond mesh and the feel of armor mesh.
