Accompanying Imogen Stidworthy’s exhibition ‘Skydde’, is ‘Radical Audio Guides’, a co-creative project presented in the Etc. Space at Matt’s Gallery, bringing together six responses to the installation given by artists Immanuel Adelowo, Saja Altamimi, Louis Caseley, James Heath, Sonny Nwachukwu and Delson Weekes.

Exhibition continues until 22 November 2026
Wednesday - Sunday, 12 - 6pm

‘Radical Audio Guides’ evolved through a series of workshops held at Matt’s Gallery with Stidworthy over 2026. Their responses are voiced through word, non-verbal utterance, gesture, mark-making, dance and music. They are shaped by different ways of being and sense-making and are presented in different forms, embracing the multitude of ways of communicating embodied by the group. Each response is offered as a guide along a unique path into the work.

‘Many people embody different forms of voicing; they may communicate through gesture or rhythm. I wanted there to be a real range of forms of voicing among the participants so that we could learn about and attune ourselves to different ways of communicating. This puts everyone in a position of both equal vulnerability and equal expertise.’

-Imogen Stidworthy, 2026

‘Radical Audio Guides’ is supported by Wandsworth Borough Council. It is a London Borough of Culture legacy project and was developed in partnership with ActionSpace and BLINK Dance Theatre. With thanks to National Lottery Players.

Coming next: Imogen Stidworthy, Skydde

30 Sep-22 Nov 2026
PV: Sun 27 Sep, 2-5pm
Wed-Sun, 12-6pm

Co-commissioned with Chapter, Cardiff, this newly devised installation is the second part of a two-stage project initiated in spring 2026 with 'In a thread of air'.

What is at stake in being between ‘I’ and ‘we’? The installation engages with different forms of communication with self and others through a therapeutic group practice, Primary Work, developed by Swedish practitioner Iris Johannson. Her practice is shaped by her autistic perception and lifelong sense of connection with ‘the primary’ dimension of existence, beyond conventional therapeutic or neurotypical frameworks.

As a child Johansson had no sense of inner life or social connection. ‘I am not into feelings, you are into feelings, but I have to rely on my inner sight.’ She recalls moving fluidly between physical and immaterial being, between the ‘ordinary reality’ and the ‘real reality’, where she would play with two friends – boys, who appeared as pieces of silk flowing in the air. Skydde, the title of this exhibition, is a Swedish word and also the name of one of the boys.

Accompanying the exhibition are six responses to the installation given by artists Immanuel Adelowo, Saja Altamimi, Louis Caseley, Vicki Hawkins, James Heath, Sonny Nwachukwu and Delson Weekes, developed through Radical Audio Guides, a co-creative project evolved through a series of workshops held at Matt’s Gallery with the artists over 2026. Their responses are voiced through word, non-verbal utterance, gesture, mark-making, dance and music. Each response is offered as a guide along a unique path into the work.

Radical Audio Guides is supported by Wandsworth Borough Council. It is a London Borough of Culture legacy project developed in partnership with ActionSpace and BLINK Dance Theatre. With thanks to National Lottery Players.

The exhibition is co-commissioned with Chapter, Cardiff and supported by Arts Council England, Freelands Foundation & Liverpool John Moores University.

ALL of ME … The Erotics of Knowing, 3–7 June 2026: On Saturday 6 June 2026, Michael Curran will lead a life drawing class in which the model directs the room.

Michael Curran’s practice spans performance, drawing and poetry. He first became known in the 1990s for his transgressive performance‑to‑camera works, later shifting from film and video installations into live performance. He studied at Goldsmiths, Duncan of Jordanstone, and the Jan Van Eyck Academie, and subsequently taught at several London art schools, including Middlesex University, Camberwell, and Central Saint Martins. His practice has become increasingly centred on live, time‑based situations, incorporating spoken word, song and drawing. Michael is the founder and director of HOVEl, an experimental art space run from his home in South London.

The Erotics of Knowing is an intensive programme of workshops, lectures and conversations, eating together, screenings, open rehearsals and performances running over five days. It frames knowledge as an embodied and relational process and asks how we can recover the erotic as a critical framework that roots language and thought in sensation and affect. For full programme and how join visit field-studies.org (link in bio). Full course programme £100. Day tickets for £25. Lunch included on any calendar day.

Curated by Dasha Anosova @dashxyz_ , Imogen Stidworthy @stidworthyimogen and Joseph Kohlmaier. The Erotics of Knowing, 3–7 June 2026: On Saturday 6 June 2026 Imogen Stidworthy will be in conversation with embodied health practitioner Fiona Fane-James to explore fundamental, liminal questions in Stidworthy's work. The conversation follows a screening of ‘In a Thread of Air’ (2026), one of the centre-pieces of Stidworthy’s recent show at Chapter Gallery.

‘For over thirty years Stidworthy’s practice has engaged with different forms of voicing, reflecting on what it means to have a voice and what it means to listen. Her works develop through spending time with people who embody different ways of being. In the sonorous, spatialised forms of her installations and films, difference is embodied in multiple registers of communication. These works invite us to dwell in spaces between languages and attune to unfamiliar forms of of voicing with others and in ourselves.’
