As I promised you fine, awesomely curious folks, I’m back to share a bit of what I’ve been up to🫶🏿:

• Eating ALL the things—putting on grown-man weight😤🦍
• Studying Classical & Jazz Guitar
• Seeing nature
• Learning ceramics & fishing
• Sometimes failing in the gym
• Working at being a more loving friend
• Reading/Writing
• Walking
• Cooking
• Leading Cultural Competency workshops for wellness/healthcare providers
• Managing my massage/manual therapy practice & clinic
• Teaching Massage Therapy

There’s hard times too, but I don’t remember to grab my camera during hard times. I be too in my feels for that 😂.

And it wasn’t a planned “break”…It prolly just felt too busy on social media, and so I didn’t open the app for a few days…and days became “forever”, and with the time gained I did other things

For most of my childhood, my mother worked as a CNA for like $9/hour. When she worked doubles at the nursing home and couldn’t find a sitter, she’d take us to work with her

This was in the 90s, and the old people in the home were from the early jazz days. They listened to jazz all day, and that’s how I ended up singing the way I do.

Whenever I hear or sing jazz, I think of my childhood and how my parents gave us the world on $9/hour, and it takes everything for me to hold back tears 🫶🏿🥹 #music #jazz by @stillmaco

♥️✨20yrs ago when I snuck out of my parents’ house and drove 25 miles on 3 drops of gas to be snuck through a window by my first love, it was Corinne Bailey Rae who calmed my nerves on the way

When we had our first kiss in the back of my Honda Accord, wanted more but saw that my windows weren’t tinted enough, and took turns keeping watch as the other explored, “Enchantment” was playing

And when we said we were better off as friends and then couldn’t even manage that, Corinne’s music consoled me

Corinne Bailey Rae came into my life during the last leg of my youthful innocence, using music—the vehicle I love most in this life, and she has never left me. She is one of my favorite artists and I’m just so grateful that we get to enjoy her artistry.

I love it when secure and expansive masculinity meets art—especially Black art—because life-giving magic is always the result.

And this is how come years after they’ve left us, we have footage of Ray Charles leaving Quincy Jones in absolute shambles with a song and an expression of brotherly love.

Ray Charles did not have to do Quincy like that in front of all them people…but he knew that he absolutely *had* to 😂❤️‍🔥🔥

And this is why Ray Charles was in a league of his own. Hope you watch and enjoy.

Wow. I cropped out my own baby sister (who is the best sister ever and one of my favorite people) just to give y’all a kiss—imagine that.

Somebody said something nice to me, and in return, EVERYONE gets a kiss from me on the forehead or the cheek (and for my grown folk, whichever cheek[s] you prefer 😏).

I woke up to someone saying something really nice about me on the TL…and just for that, EVERYONE gets a morning lullaby. And in your finest hour, remember who supplied you with lullabies and chest hair. Like I said at the end, “that’s all I got for y’all”…(for now 😏)

It’s Canada Day, and I’m reminded that Canadians are the kindest people in the world. Anywhere else, I would’ve been clowned for being so genuinely excited about snow. When we talk about beautiful examples of masculinity that is expansive, aware of its weaknesses, yet sure of itself, I’m also looking at where this shows up in art.

Grateful that Stevie Wonder took his time, got introspective, grew up, reached into his heart and delivered these 3 impactful albums BACK to BACK:

Talking Book (1972), Innervisions (1973), and Fulfillingness’ First Finale (1974)

👑❤️‍🔥🐐 I highly recommend treating yourself by listening to Stevie Wonder‘s legendary five-album run that we now referred to as his “Classic Period”. I don’t think you’ll regret it. Happy listening!🫶🏿
