#Repost from and a big thanks to @visitvortex for the wonderful write-up they did for us in their spring issue! 🙌 😊 * * * * * * All medicines have their origins somewhere in nature; for many of us, it makes sense to go straight to the source, whether our goal is to feel better or to look our best. When we do, we want solid science and expertise to guide us—and that’s what you’ll find at Stinging Nettle Apothecary @stingingnettleny in Catskill, alongside an array of organic and natural house-made items. “We offer personalized service to customers; all our products are handmade with great care from natural ingredients, from the herbs in our shop,” says Pat Argoff. “We offer tea blends, custom teas, salves, infused oils, bath and skin products, soaps, candles, aromatherapy oils, and handmade gifts. We also have some culinary spice mixes and infused vinegars. We are very eager to work with our customers if they have specific items they would like us to make.” Argoff and her husband Charles are both native New Yorkers (Long Island and Brooklyn, respectively) who relocated upriver to the Capital region 15 years ago. From garden to salve! 🌶️ We harvested cayenne peppers from our garden and turned them into our warming Cayenne Salve, just in time for the colder months. Rich in capsaicin, cayenne is known for helping temporarily relieve minor muscle aches, joint discomfort, and stiffness. A little garden-grown warmth for chilly days ahead! Shop in-store or online at stingingnettleny.com #cayenne #painrelief #catskills #hudsonvalleyny #naturalremedies by @stingingnettleny
Fresh pour 💜 Our lavender-infused oil is bottled and on the shelf, infused with lavender flowers from our own garden. And yes, it's really that green. That's what you get when the lavender actually infuses. No shortcuts, nothing artificial. A few drops on skin after a bath or rubbed in before bed. Simple, good stuff. This one's in store only, so come see us and grab a bottle while it's here! #shopsmall #herbalapothecary #catskillny #hudsonvalley #lavenderoil by @stingingnettleny
Something new on the shelf 🌿 Our Cramp Bark Glycerite: cramp bark, chaste tree berry, skullcap, and raspberry leaf, blended into vegetable glycerin instead of alcohol. Cramp bark has a long tradition of use for menstrual cramps. The glycerin base makes it alcohol-free and a little sweet, which honestly makes it easier to reach for. $24 in the shop and online. #shopsmall #menstrualcramps #catskillny #hudsonvalley #crampbark by @stingingnettleny
There's something so satisfying about this part of fall 🍂 The calendula, chamomile, lavender, and cayenne in these photos all grew in our own garden. We harvested them by hand and turned them into our calendula oil, chamomile oil, lavender cream, and cayenne salve. Grown by us, made by us...that's the whole point of the shop, honestly. Shop in-store or online at stingingnettleny.com #hudsonvalley #catskillny #shopsmall #herbalapothecary #locallyharvested by @stingingnettleny
Fire cider is one of my favorite things to have on hand once the weather turns cold. 🔥🌿 As both an RN and herbalist, I love how many simple, traditional ingredients come together in one preparation. Ours, made with raw apple cider vinegar, onions, garlic, turmeric root, ginger root, horseradish, oranges, lemons, peppercorns, & cayenne pepper, can help support: • Digestion • Circulation and warmth • Immune function • Respiratory and sinus comfort • Metabolic health • Seasonal resilience It’s warming, pungent, and full of plants that have been used in home herbal traditions for generations. We make ours in small batches here at Stinging Nettle Botanics, and it’s available in the shop and online at stingingnettleny.com. 🌿 #firecider #immunesupport #coldseason #catskillsny #hudsonvalleyny by @stingingnettleny
Our autumn chalkboard 🍂 Fall is fully here and the shop's got warm teas brewing, fire cider on the shelf, and elderberry syrup restocked. Right now we're pouring nettle leaf as the tea of the day. Nettle is one of the most nourishing herbs we know, naturally rich in iron, calcium, and magnesium. Herbalists have long loved it as a daily tonic through the colder months, and many turn to it for seasonal wellness support. Stop in and try a cup while you're on Main Street. #catskillny #hudsonvalleyny #nettleleaf #herbaltea #fallinthecatskills by @stingingnettleny
It's officially elderberry season. 🌿 Our Elderberry Syrup is one of the most-loved staples in the shop this time of year. It's a classic herbal ally for supporting the immune system through the cold-weather months. We’ll be making a fresh batch every Sunday. If you’re local and want to make sure you get a bottle, you can order online, choose store pickup, and we’ll set it aside for you. #elderberrysyrup #immunesupport #herbalremedies #catskillny #hudsonvalleyny by @stingingnettleny
The garden is handing us everything at once right now, so that’s what we’re infusing. Calendula, chamomile, and lavender all came out of our garden this week and went straight into oil back at the shop. Lavender infused oil and lavender night cream both land next week. The cayenne is still ripening, and when it’s ready we’ll be making our cayenne oil with peppers we grew ourselves. Fresh infused oils are on the shelf now at 424 Main St, and the lavender pair is right behind them. #catskills #catskillny #hudsonvalleyny #apothecary #herbalmedicine by @stingingnettleny
Walking in the street. Crossing barricades. Dodging cones. That is what it has taken to reach our door this summer, and you have done it anyway. Thank you for that. Truly. Small shops survive on exactly this kind of loyalty, and we do not take a single visit for granted. Still here at 424 Main. Still worth the detour 😊 #catskillny #catskills #shopsmall #herbalapothecary #hudsonvalleyny by @stingingnettleny
How many of these plants have you noticed lately? 🌿 August is a beautiful time to start paying closer attention to what’s growing around us here in the Catskills. Goldenrod, yarrow, plantain, and dandelion are all familiar plants with long histories of traditional herbal use, and learning to recognize them is one of the simplest ways to deepen your connection to herbalism. Save this post for your next walk and see how many you can spot. For educational purposes only. Always positively identify a plant before harvesting or using it. #catskillsny #goldenrod #yarrow #plantain #dandelion by @stingingnettleny
