John‬ ‭5‬:‭39‬-‭40‬

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.”

This is Jesus speaking mainly to the Pharisees, the religious leaders of His time. They loved to know the scriptures, and from the scriptures tried to find life in their righteous living. They thought that life would be found in doing “good things” that they found in scripture. Yet Jesus is saying they have missed the point, and that the scriptures point to Him. This is because we could never find this true, eternal life on our own, and He loved us enough to freely give it. We can still think we have life in what brings us pleasure, or even the “good things” we do in the name of God. However, apart from Christ, these are nothing. We must understand what Jesus wants is our hearts. For us to come to him for life and stop trying to find it on our own.

This summer was full of life, but only because of Jesus and His completed work on the cross, then coming to Him for life. by @stirling.vineyard

Coast to coast

As I reflect over this summer, and even this last year, I am reminded of Isaiah 53:6 -

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

God changed everything this last year of my life. Even though I had gone astray, Jesus still sacrificed himself for me. I thought I rightly understood what this sacrifice meant in my life for so long… in reality I just didn’t. But God in his mercy found me where I was anyway and changed my heart. I’m so grateful for everyone He has specially placed in my life and everything new He has begun in me.
