A hotel room. Paint. An old blanket. And a bunch of people who just went for it. 🧵🎨

Together with the guests of NYX Hotels Amsterdam we finished Stitching Stories pieces and transformed an old blanket into an immense skirt. Live, on the spot, all together.

Voor de studenten van de Bacademy mochten we een masterclass verzorgen.

Als eindopdracht gingen de studenten aan de slag met een fotoshoot, waarbij ze verschillende ontwerpen uit onze collectie gebruikten, waaronder onze harnassen en een custom spijkerjas✨

Even opnieuw voorstellen! Ik ben Carmen Joanna Luijt, het kloppende hart achter én midden in Stitching Stories.

Stitching Stories is in 2020 geboren als mijn afstudeercollectie van de Willem de Kooning Academie. Ja, je leest het goed midden in corona. Daarom zijn de eerste jaren wat kleinschaliger geweest, en werkte ik naast het label als grafisch vormgever voor o.a. @tophair_benelux

Maar waar begon het eigenlijk?
Als klein meisje was ik al gefascineerd door mensen en culturen. Mijn moeder zei altijd dat ik met open mond naar iedereen stond te staren. Op mijn tiende droeg ik al gestreepte kousen en had ik gekleurde extensions. Ik wilde me uitdrukken, anders zijn.

Mode was altijd de richting. Maar hoe geef je het ook betekenis? Veel mensen om mij heen werken in maatschappelijk werk. Dat wilde ik meenemen. Het mbo leerde me de craft. De kunstacademie leerde me mijn identiteit.

Nu bouw ik Stitching Stories verder uit als impact fashion label. Kleding als dialoog. Geïnspireerd op verhalen die ertoe doen, vertaald in kledingstukken die herkenning geven aan verschillende (sub)culturen.

En met @stitchup.workshops geven we je nu ook de tools om je eigen verhaal te stikken.

🚨 NEW ATELIER UNLOCKED 🚨

Een kleine tour door ons nieuwe atelier 👀
Groter, creatiever en nog meer ruimte om te maken, ontdekken en samen te komen.

In deze nieuwe spot werken we aan onze collecties, organiseren we upcycle workshops én ben je welkom om gewoon binnen te lopen, mee te kijken of zelf aan de slag te gaan.

En dit wordt meer dan alleen een atelier…
We gaan hier ook leuke events hosten — van voetbalshirts bedrukken tot samen wedstrijden kijken.

Extra leuk: we zitten naast @sillafood.nl dus goede koffie en snacks zijn altijd dichtbij.

We kunnen niet wachten om jullie hier te ontvangen.

Stitching Stories tour @motelmozaique

De kijk vanuit Stitching Stories op de West-kruiskade in Rotterdam. De straat in Rotterdam waar zó veel (sub)culturen samen komen, samen leven, naast elkaar staan.
Van de weave shop, tot de Chinese, Javaanse, Surinaamse toko. Naast het Arabische restaurant, de koffiezaak en de coffeeshop.
Alle acts geïnspireerd op de subculturen die ik zelf heb gezien op de West-kruiskade.
De goal van deze tour? Mensen inspireren meer om zich heen te kijken, observeer en waardeer.

We start the year with the creation of the costume for the campaign TIJD VOOR PAPOEA the new exhibition in @wereldmuseum.leiden you can go and see it now!

The documentation of the creation of the costume will be live tuesday 24th.

We’ve created the costume together with Creative Agency @vliering.studio

The concept was inspired by non-linear time perception in parts of Papua where time is oriented through landscape, not a straight line. We’ve documented the whole process from the beginning until the end. Here I want to show you what steps you have to take and what hiccups can happen in the process of a collaboration like this.

It’s not all as rosy as it seems; it’s a lot of cross-checking, meetings, little delays and phone calls. It’s truly a matter of building from scratch, and it’s hard work for a great result with a fantastic team.
