Mimi fell asleep in my arms yesterday on October 20 as we cuddled for the last time. She always waits for me to get ready and we cuddle for a bit on her bed and watch some YouTube (usually food review videos) or 90 Day Fiance while I pet her, tell her goodnight Meemeron and that I love her. I’m so grateful that we got to do our nighttime routine for the last time together.

Mimi has been a constant in my life; she’s saved me from severe depression, helped me cope with trauma, and has always been there to give me licks when I’m crying. While I’m depressed and heartbroken right now, I feel lucky to have been a part of her life the last 13 years and having met her as a 13 year old — she taught me how to love and do that unconditionally.

She loved to swim, and she was an insanely good swimmer. We spent so many summers jumping in the pool together and swimming. She loved loved loved clothes and new collars; she’d jump up and sniff them and made it so easy to put clothes on her. Mimi’s all time favorite song is Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up,” that’s the song she’d always get up and dance to with my sister and I (her tail wags went crazy). Mimi loves cuddles, booty scratches, and licking legs and unfortunately, feet. Her breath smelled like a mixture of mackerel and her feet smelled like Fritos and Nacho Cheese Doritos — genuinely the most comforting smells and I miss them and her so bad.

I wish Mimi was here to be with me to go through everything in life but the more I process things, the more I am comforted by the thought of being reunited with her again. She is my soul dog, the dog that has always understood me and knew exactly how to take care of me and comfort me. I still feel her spirit with me and her love. I truly believe that we were always meant to be in each others lives and I can’t wait to find her in the next. I feel like Mimi and I have always known each other and I think we’ll find each other in every life time 🐕‍🦺
