The Text: The Mamba Mentality

Disclaimer: I used to love basketball. Boxing as well. My favorite athletes were either unusual reasons or intangible reasons. My appreciation for Kobe had nothing to do with basketball. In fact the reasons why I appreciated him were a large part of why he became such a great player.
Message: a book about basketball that for me had nothing to do with basketball. Mind over matter. Belief, aspirations, hard-work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard—this book summarizes when talent (ability) does work hard. Always being a student. Studying the past, analyzing the present, prepping for the future as much as you can. Focusing on being the BEST you. Pushing through injuries, illness, ailments. Giving your all daily so that you leave nothing on the table in terms of regrets regarding pursuing your purpose or passion. To which some would say it’s just basketball. That mentality can be applied to health, parenthood, leadership, where ever you want to plug it in.
Umoja: Bringing the COMPLETE you to your work or purpose. Bringing a best version of you to the collective purposes.

The Text: Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy Seals Lead and Win

Message: Ownership is similar to accountability. Extreme Ownership is the lens of what role you play in all the realities/projects/issues being evaluated or called out. Extreme ownership is tying shortfalls to self and not pointing fingers. How did you play a role in that problem. There are various other underlying principles that were explored and of value.

Umoja: Accountability to the collective. Ownership. Not laying the blame or pointing the finger outward. As leaders we look at our role and what we could have done better in leading the collective.
My Thoughts: My cousin asked me to read this. From the title alone I knew I identified. The title is just one principle covered in the book. I agree with the majority, but there needs to be balance. In addition a blind believer can easily be manipulated by a manipulator.
