My dad rode for a club out of north Sac in the late 70’s-early 80’s, but I never got the HD bug like he did. In fact, I went the opposite direction and got into the Japanese rockets. I never understood the allure until I got his bike. And granted, this is nearly 50 years old and requires a closer eye on maintenance than a new one, it’s still one hell of a machine. Biggest bike I had up to this point was an 1100. And I imagine 1340cc’s was probably a big deal back when they introduced them.
Anyway, I haven’t ridden in a few years, and I’m learning more about these daily. I’m really enjoying this thing.

Finally got a good evening to take this out. It’s air cooled, so I don’t like to take it out in our regular 157 degree weather. This thing runs hot as it is. I think I’m going to throw some electric cooling fans on and see how that does. Every degree helps in this heat.

My dad died 28 years ago, and that’s how long it took me to get my hands on it. This is the only thing I have that belonged to my dad. Bikes were always coming and going in his life, but for whatever reason, this is the one he always kept. His baby, so to speak. There is a lot of history with this bike and my family. And that history is why myself or my uncle will be the only ones to have anything to do with it, henceforth. It’s a ‘78-1/2 silver anniversary Electra Glide with the 1340cc motor, and I have all the parts to take it back to stock. It’s not the fanciest HD, but I don’t care. It could have been a ’78 Pinto and I’d still feel the same way about it. My uncle spent a small fortune having this thing stripped and restored, and I can safely say this is not the bike my dad allowed me to ride 30 years ago. The bike was barely running back then. Today it’s an absolute beast. I’ve ridden all my life, and this is still a lot of bike for me. It’s been extremely well taken care of, and only needs minor attention.
To be clear, I wasn’t ready to receive this bike until last weekend. Suffice to say, the drive up to Montana and back to get it was a fairly emotional one. Anyway, time for me to polish up enjoy this thing.

Not my best work, but it’s playing music. Everything besides the 3’s was stuff I had lying around the shop. This is a pretty light setup, but I’d eventually like to move to a single amp/dsp setup. Car still handles like a cat, so it’s fine for now. Just need to add fans and clean it up quite a bit. Btw, this isn’t SQ. This is something to be able to hear my podcasts over the exhaust.
