I have had the fortunate/ pleasure to be able to call @michael4thomas a friend from being early teenagers. The quality of personality and character of this man is unquestionable. Great meeting you yesterday. #legend #OGgunner #myguy by @stokedatlifter

A recommendation from @bookofcinz The Bread the Devil Knead felt, at times, like being pulled between two worlds — the beauty of Trinidadian language and storytelling on one hand, and the ugliness of what people can do to one another on the other.

@lisaallenagostini use of Trinidad Creole is joyful. The language feels alive — rhythmic, sharp, intimate, funny, tender. It doesn’t feel translated or polished for an outside audience. Alongside that, the descriptive prose is gorgeous. There is such a strong sense of place: the heat, the food, the streets, the colours, the smells, the ordinary details of life. A difficult read, certainly. But also a beautifully written one, and a reminder of just how much can be carried in language when a writer trusts the authentic voice of a place. by @stokedatlifter
