This is a graphite pencil drawing of a lioness (panthera Leo). A typical female lion has a head to body length of 160 to 184 cm with a tail length of 72 to 89 cm and the weight between 119 and 144 kg. One interesting thing is that Eastern African lions are slightly bigger. African lions live in scattered populations across sub-sahara Africa and prefer grassy plains and Savannah's as well as scrub bordering rivers and open woodlands. The reference photo that I used was taken by James Lewan @james.lewin_photography in 2020.

This is an ink drawing of a female cheetah (acinonyx jubatus). Cheetahs are the fastest land mammal in the world with speeds exceeding 100 km an hour. They are considered to be critically endangered with an approximate mature population of 6517. They have a diverse range including savannahs, grasslands, thick shrub, dry forest and high altitude mountain regions. A female cheetah can live up to 14 years in the wild and significantly longer in managed Care. A female cheetah reaches reproductive age in approximately 2 years and gives birth to litters of three to five Cubs after a 90 to 95 day gestation. The excellent reference photo that I used was taken by @composingthewild . This is my second endeavor in doing a drawing in ink and I definitely learned a lot more on this one than the first.

This is the first ink drawing that I've completed. It's of a male and female killer whales or orcas .(disambiguation) I didn't use any specific reference photos because I have drawn quite a few Orcas over the past years that I have been drawing. Doing this drawing I've learned a bit about drawing with ink but I definitely need to do a lot more exploring in the use of ink to draw with.

This is a pencil drawing of a killer whale named Rocky T002C1 who is one of the largest Briggs West Coast transient killer whales. The Briggs killer whales territory covers from California to Alaska. Rocky's mother is Tasu T2C who was born in 1989. Rocky was born in 2002 and is estimated to weigh between 8100 to over 9,000 kg. The West Coast Briggs killer whales number around 400 individuals. The Briggs killer whale does not interbreed with resident killer whales. In fact genetic studies show this killer whale ecotype has been genetically distinct from all other eco types of killer whales for a minimum of 750,000 years. Briggs killer whales eat a variety of marine mammals including harbor seals, harbor porpoises, stellar and California sea lions, dolls porpoises, Pacific white sided dolphins and occasionally other whales such as Mickey's and juvenile gray and humpback whales.
The incredible reference photo that I used was taken by Aly Kohlman @themoth219 off the coast of Vancouver Island.

This is a graphite pencil drawing of my cousin Donna Storey's daughter Jennifer krukowski @jenkrukowski who passed away in July of 2021. Her mother passed away quite a few years ago but she and Jen are survived by her brother Leo Krukowski @leokrukowski who is an artist that works with metal, teaches drawing and makes jewelry. Jen was an artist, photographer, model, actress and a beautiful woman inside and out. Her mother Donna was one of my favorite cousins and was the same age as I am. This graphic pencil drawing is of an Antarctic fur seal (arctocephalus gazelle) which is a midsize pinniped. The Antarctic fur seal despite its name is most widely distributed in the sub Antarctic Islands. The breeding system of the Antarctic fur seal is polygynous which is dominated by breeding males that mate with as many as 20 females during a successful season. Males established breeding grounds in October to early November and females generally reach the colonies in December and give birth to a single pup several days later. Gestation lasts between 8 and 9 months and it has been observed with 90% of the pups being delivered in a 10-day window. Pups are weaned at about 4 months. Juveniles may spend several years at Sea before returning to begin their breeding cycles.
The reference photo that I used was taken by Olivier Larrey @olivier_larrey who is a wildlife photographer and film director.

This is a graphite pencil drawing of a lion cub (panthera Leo) which is native to Sub-Saharan Africa and India. Lion cubs are always in danger from rival males, common predators and harsh conditions which means survival is never guaranteed. The cubs are cared for by moms, aunts and sisters who cooperate to feed and guard the young with dominant males defending the pride.
The amazing reference photo that I used was taken by Paul Nicklen @paulnicklen who is a Canadian wildlife photographer and environmentalist. The photograph was taken in the Namiri Plains of Tanzania.

This is a graphite pencil drawing of the greater Kudu (tragelaphus strepsiceros) which is a woodland antelope found throughout eastern and southern Africa. Despite occupying such widespread territory, they are sparsely populated in most areas due to declining habitat, deforestation and poaching. This drawing is a Kudo bull which have beards running along their throats with large horns that have two and a half twists. Bulls weigh between 190 to 270 kg with a maximum of 315 kg, and stand up to 160 cm tall at the shoulder. Cow weigh between 120 to 260 kg and stand 100 cm tall at the shoulder and are hornless without a beard or nose markings. The predators of the greater kudu generally consist of lions, spotted hyenas, African wild dogs as well as cheetahs and leopards.
The amazing reference photo that I used was taken by Robert @robert_wildlife_photography in Kruger National Park in South Africa. @krugernationalpark

This is a graphite pencil drawing of an African lioness (disambiguation) and cubs. Lionesses tend to hunt in a group especially when going after larger prey. They will hunt smaller prey on their own when necessary especially if they have Cubs to feed. When hunting lions run quickly only in short bursts, at about 45 to 59 km/hr. Lions typically consume prey at the location of the hunt but sometimes drag large prey into cover. They tend to scrabble overkills particularly the males. Cubs suffer the most when food is scarce but otherwise all pride members eat their fill, including old and crippled lions which can live on leftovers. An adult lioness requires an average of about 5 kg of meat per day males require about 7 kg. Most lionesses reproduce by the time they are 4 years old. Lions don't mate at a specific time of year and the females are polyestrous like those of other cats. A lioness may mate with more than one male when she's in heat.
The amazing black and white reference photo that I used was taken by Brenda Mitchell @brenda_mitchell_photography who is a wildlife photographer and a dear friend. I believe that the photograph was taken in Kenya.

This is a graphite pencil drawing of an American lion (panthera atrox) which is an extinct pantherine cat native to North America from around 129,000 - 12,800 years ago. Its fossils have been found across North America, from Canada to Mexico. It was about 25% larger than a modern lion, making it the largest known members of the felids family. The American lion is estimated to have measured 1.6 to 2.5 m from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail and stood 1.2 m at the shoulder. A male American lion was estimated to weigh between 235 kg to 523 kg and females between 175 kg and 365 kg. The American lion is believed to have inhabited Savannah's and grasslands like modern lions. They also inhabited forests with sparse tree coverage suggesting that the species lived in a wide variety of environments. The most likely prayed on deer, horses, camels, American bison, mammoths and other large hoofed animals. The male American lion did not have a main like modern-day lions have but overall it had longer and thicker hair than a modern lion has now because of the colder environment that it lived in.

This is a graphite pencil drawing of a woolly rhinoceros (coelodonta antiquitatis) and calf. The woolly rhinoceros is comparable in size to the largest living rhinoceros species, the white rhino and was covered with thick long hair that allowed it to survive in the extremely cold harsh Mammoth steppe. It had a massive hump reaching from his shoulders. By the end of the Riss glaciation about 130,000 years ago the woolly rhinoceros lived throughout Northern Eurasia, spanning most of Europe, the Russian plains, Siberia and the Mongolian plateau. The first evidence of the woolly rhinoceros was found 450,000 years ago and went extinct somewhere about 12,000 years ago. The woolly rhinoceros was hunted by humans but its Extinction was caused by climate change. The Woolly Mammoth was a grazer feeding on grass and vegetation from the ground. It has been estimated that the woolly rhinoceros could reach around 40 years of age like it's modern relatives. At one month old the calf was about 1.2 m in length and 72 cm tall at the shoulder. The most intensive growth of a woolly rhino was during the juvenile stage around 3 to 4 years of age.

This is a graphite pencil drawing of two coastal wolf pups or Seawolf pups (disambiguation). These two playful pups look like they're playing with an eagle feather while their mom is foraging for food within the intertidal zone. Along the coast they forage for barnacles, clams, mussels and crabs, digging into the sand with their paws and using their powerful jaw muscles to break open the shells. They also scavenge whatever has been left behind by the tide, which can include everything from abalone to whale carcasses. Coastal wolves also actively hunt marine mammals like otters, seals and their offspring as well as terrestrial mammals like deer, river otters and minks. The BC ministry of forest restrictively regulates the hunting of these wolves, with specific limits during trapping and hunting seasons to prevent the depletion of the populations.
The reference photo that I used was taken by Paul Nicklen @paulnicklen who is a Canadian wildlife photographer, environmentalist, a National geographic contributor and @sealegacy co-founder.
