Nowhere is boring. Some places are just unexplained.

A pinned introduction, because this is our first carousel and it helps to start at the beginning.

StorieD makes a fully narrated walking tour for places that could never justify one before: small museums, market towns, parish councils, local heritage groups, and people who know their town well enough to share it.

You build the tour yourself, visitors scan a QR code to listen, and you only pay when you decide to publish. Your local knowledge stays yours, and every word is approved by you before a visitor hears it.

Save this one for the next tourism or committee meeting, so it is to hand when someone asks what we actually do.

Margate has a shell grotto behind an ordinary door on a quiet residential street, found in 1835 when a boy was lowered into a hole in the ground, and a museum devoted entirely to crabs. Nearly two centuries on, nobody can say who made the grotto or why.

We built a tour of it in one sitting. Not a polished, months-in-the-making tour. A real one, narrated at every stop, with a QR code at the end.

Free to build, free to walk, you only pay if you decide to publish it.

The stops are a first pass and the wording could do with a tidy, but it works.

And a grotto most people walk straight past is a good argument for somewhere worth walking.

The clerk who told us their town was too small had seven points of interest, a volunteer-run information point and a leaflet not many people pick up.

That is a walking tour waiting to happen. Small towns have the stories, the local sponsors and the ability to actually get a decision made.

Save this for the next time someone says your town is too small.

Berwick-upon-Tweed changed hands between England and Scotland thirteen times, still has its Elizabethan town walls all the way round, and has a viewpoint where the bridges over the Tweed line up.

Most visitors see it from a train window.

We built a tour of it over one cup of tea.

Not perfect yet, but it works. And a town that has been fought over thirteen times is somewhere worth walking rather than passing through.

Everyone has an opinion on Blackpool.

Most of it is about the Tower, the arcades and the weather, and hardly any of it is the history. Stanley Park, for one, began as hen runs and pigsties before anyone decided it should be a park.

We typed one word into StorieD and got a fully narrated, three stop walking tour back in minutes. No committee, no months of waiting. Free to build, free to walk, and you only pay if you decide to publish it.

The wording still needs a tidy in places and the stops are a first pass, but it’s a lot closer to a walk worth taking than a leaflet in a rack.

If your town has a story nobody’s telling yet, send us a postcode and we’ll build yours next.

Knaresborough has a cave where the water turns objects to stone, a castle where Richard II was held prisoner, and a sculpture marking the day the Tour de France came through Yorkshire.

Most visitors photograph the viaduct and move on.

We built a tour of it before the coffee went cold. Not a polished, months-in-the-making tour. A real one, with stops and stories and a QR code you can actually scan.

Rough in a couple of places, but it holds together. And it gets people further than the one photograph everybody takes from the same spot on the bridge.

Whitby has 199 steps up to the abbey, a graveyard Bram Stoker sat in for inspiration, and a jet-black gemstone the Victorians wore for mourning. Most visitors get the fish and chips and leave.

We built a tour of it in the time it took to finish a flat white. Not a polished, months-in-the-making tour. A real one, with stops and stories and a QR code you can actually scan. Free to build, free to walk, you only pay if you decide to publish it.

Still a bit rough round the edges in places, but it works. And it’s a lot closer to somewhere worth walking than a printed leaflet nobody picks up.
