Charleroi is known as the city of zebras. For this edition of the Black Oyster Club, few guests could be more fitting for the jungle that is our city.

Who is faster than a mongoose and as powerful as an elephant?

Yes, thats right, THE rhinoceros from Birmingham… the one and only MICK HARRIS!

As the drummer of Napalm Death, he helped define extreme metal for the generations that followed. With Scorn he carried that force into electronic music. Collaborations with Bill Laswell and John Zorn placed him at the centre of experimental and heavy music.

Live appearances have become rare in recent years. He honours the Black Oyster Club with an exclusive performance of his new project Blare Weight Unit.

Long time accomplice Stormfield from Combat recordings will be in charge of the visuals. But not only... He will also provide us with a liveset... and if you remember his last appearance at event #4, you know you're in for a threat!

This is a once in a lifetime event… don't miss it!

The Black Oyster Club is a nomadic private club that aims to organize one-off events in the Charleroi area. Faced with the cruel lack of quality alternative electronic music it was decided to organize evenings where the best DJ's and producers - not only Belgian but also international - will offer you the snapshot of a scene that never stops to evolve taken in Le Vecteur by @stormfieldcombat

Stormfield is Derek Szeto’s solo project, one half of Combat Recordings, the label he started back in 2004. His sound lives somewhere between electro, acid, techno, IDM and jungle, running hot at 120–140bpm, with a dystopian, machine-built edge that traces straight back to LFO, Aphex Twin and Autechre. Four years living in Brixton left him with a permanent craving for basslines heavy enough to shake a room.

He’s just as deep in the visual side. Derek’s been the resident VJ and tour visual creator for Mick Harris, UKAEA and African Head Charge, and has brought his AV sets to Ozora, Houghton and FOLD. Most recently he presented Break: Remake at Avant Art Festival in Warsaw, sharing a bill with Dis Fig, Lord Spikeheart and Space Afrika.

Surgeon and Mary Anne Hobbs have both championed his tracks, he’s had airtime on Rinse FM, BBC Radio 1 and Sub FM, and his records come out through Combat Recordings, Opal Tapes and Natural Selection.

Popped in to Roxy Records while in Singapore. Learned a lot about electronic music from here in the early 90s, off a bunch of special order CDs and 12” pre internet. Autechre, Aphex, FSOL, Global Communication, early Warp which I’d spend ages listening to in a dark room.

Shop’s been running independently since the 1960s and has seen other shops come and go, including HMV and Tower Records. Interesting to see kids coming in still buying CDs, Spotify hasn’t destroyed everything just yet. Big up Paul and Richard. Still here still pushing taken in Roxy Records & Trading by @stormfieldcombat

Putting on a gig! The legendary Mick Harris (aka. Scorn, original Napalm Death) makes a rare appearance in London this autumn.

He will play sets from 2 different projects:

LULL

BLARE WEIGHT UNIT

Accompanied with live visuals by long time ally Stormfield.

Building up the night, SCALD performs dark, bass-heavy cinematics from their project “Asphyxia”, an audiovisual live performance which supported Mick recently at Sonic Arts Week for the Industrial Coast label. Expanding their EP into a 6 person improvisation of live vocals, strings, butoh-inspired motion sensor synths and electronics, the cast includes The Seer, UKAEA, Waterflower, Josh Curtis and Laboranta.

Joining us will be ZAMYARSKI, a London based interdisciplinary artist working across sound, visuals, performance and installation. Fresh from supporting Merzbow in Bulgaria and back to town for this event, his music is rooted in manipulated noise, abrasive textures, drones and often informed by sound art practices. taken in I K L E C T I K by @stormfieldcombat
