📍DETROIT | There are only 5 days until ALCHEMY, a splitbill performance presented by Andy Arts Detroit where STORMWRKS artists Storm Stokes (@thestormstokes ) Mary Renko (@maryyrenkoo ) and Nathalie Barnes (@by.nathalieobarnes ) will perform a new dance-visual work: RESPAIR. Collapsing movement and projection media, our research pursues the embodiment of ‘spiritual abolition’… or our deconstruction and reimagination of ritual in pursuit of spiritual liberation.

from a proscenium exploration of ANGELUS: a dance-visual body of work by Sara Thoreson and Storm Stokes. Sharing soft sculpture, transfiguring movement vocabulary, and intimate live projection, ANGELUS embodies the cyclical nature of religious deconstruction and spiritual self-definition.

This presentation was made possible through residency with Creaturespace NYC’s Common Space 5 ——- collaboration with movement artists Camryn Stafford, Taylor Yamashita, Morgan Gregory, Mic Carter; sound designer Raina Williams; and material artist Ayinde Bradford —— technical production by STORMWRKS ——- and additional production by Sara Thoreson and Storm Stokes.

stills from There Can Be Angels, a transdisciplinary and durational performance work exploring witchy, spiritual restoration through reclamation of natural world. Set at Eliza Howell Park in Detroit, MI, this work paid homage to Detroiters fighting to keep natural spaces accessible in the city.

This work was made possible by Sidewalk Festival 2025. I am so grateful to have partaken in this year’s presentation.

Performers: Najah, Kamaria, Camryn, and Storm.
Plus some super incredible sound by Billy Mark, with special thanks to the words of Adrienne Marie Brown.
