I’m grateful to see this little board book recognized for its mission to help babies and toddlers build early speech and language skills.

THIS BOOK! 😍📚 We had so much fun reading, Hi, How Are You? which was kindly sent to us by fellow SLP and author Holly from @storybookconnection. ✨

It’s such a sweet story for naturally supporting labeling, functional communication, greetings, actions, animal sounds, feelings, friendship, and more. 🤍

In our home, we use both spoken language and sign language, so we loved incorporating both while reading together. And can we just talk about how many signs our sweet Benny boy is using! 🥹

During story time, I focus on making books interactive and pressure-free. We don’t always read every word on the page. Instead, I follow my son’s interests, talk about what he points to or notices, and model words, signs, and language without any expectation that he has to repeat or respond. The goal is connection, shared attention, and making communication feel natural and fun. 🤍

A little note: We are still learning sign language ourselves from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) community! 🤟 If you’re interested in learning ASL, I always encourage learning from and supporting DHH creators, educators, and community members as your primary teachers. 🤍

✨ So honored that Hi, How Are You? was featured in the latest episode of the gestalt get-together podcast with guest Rachel See of @singablebookclub! 💜

In the episode, Rachel and host Corinne Zmoos discuss what makes a story "singable" and how singable books can support meaningful language development through music, repetition, predictability, and connection.

I'm so grateful that Hi, How Are You? was included as one of the recommended books and loved getting to hear the original melody Rachel came up with for singing the story! 📚🎶
