3 years ago, during the bandemic, an artist Ive admired for a long time started a writing group & creative collective called @badkidsklass. Nightly we’d all meet via zoom, fellowship & collaborate in sessions for some of the biggest artists working today. It was there i got a chance to absorb game & better my craft with @malikyusef100. Its nothing short of a dream & i was happy to see him this weekend applauded rightfully as the artist behind so much, including a hit much of the audience found out for the 1st time, Find Your Love by Drake. As many of you know, earlier this year I started my business, Quest-O-Vision LLC as a means to collect royalties from my music. As I ventured further into the work of an independent artist trying to have their stuff right, I realized that i not only was already involved in multiple creative ventures outside of music, but that i could offer artists & non-artists alike creative solutions thru this newly formed company. Having started as a graphic designer, it was always tough for me to justify an expense like branding work when i had the requisite skills to do it, but when the opportunity to work with the legendary @jorgepeniche presented itself it felt completely in alignment. Some of you may or may not know, my son was born on the 1 year anniversary of Nip’s passing (que en paz descanse), and as a man who stood for what Nipsey Hussle & The Marathon Group stood for, I couldn’t have a better collaboration as visual messaging. The man who spoke up & said “if its time to team up, shit lets begin” in a time where my people were painted as rapists and drug smugglers with SOME good people, in a time where many of us didnt even stand up for ourselves, Nip did, and Jorge was right there with them both as part of the Marathon Group, standing for ownership, community empowerment, self love & perseverance the long way, as well the creator of Nip’s personal artist logo, the logo for the Marathon Clothing Store(the world’s first smart store)on the corner of Slauson & Crenshaw & the iconic Crenshaw font type.I am beyond humbled to present the new branding for Quest-O-Vision on the day I received keys to my office listed under my company, born of and for HIP HOP, unity of the people and empowerment.
