RESCUE STORIES | STRAND SURF LIFESAVING CLUB

When a real rescue happens, every second matters.

Tayler, Maya and Conrad take us through a rescue involving Strand lifeguards, breaking down what happened, the actions taken and what it took to bring the patient safely to shore.

They also talk about the training they do to compete in the Rescue Sport Series, and how developing these skills through sport can help prepare lifeguards for real rescues.

And this is the connection at the heart of Rescue Sport Series:

The skills used to save lives in real rescues are the same skills lifeguards train, practise and race in rescue sport.

Every swim. Every paddle. Every board race. Every run. Every transition.

Because when the moment comes, there is no starting gun.
No second chance.
No room for hesitation.

You train for the race.
You race for the rescue.
You rescue to save a life.

THE CLUBS OF RESCUE SPORT: STRAND SURF LIFESAVING CLUB

Founded in 1958, Strand Surf Lifesaving Club patrols Strand Beach and is one of Lifesaving Western Cape’s clubs represented in the Rescue Sport Series.

Season 1 saw Strand finish 9th overall with 52 points and take home the 2024/25 Club Growth Award. They were also our hosts for the 2025 Western Cape Surf Lifesaving Championships.

They continued that growth into Season 2, finishing 9th again but increasing their points to 73. Entries jumped from 26 to 114, an increase of 88 entries and 338.5%.

Season 3 will also bring Surf Competition #3 to Strand Beach on 6 February 2027.

Racing under the scull cap colours of red, yellow and blue, Strand is back for another season of Rescue Sport.

We’ll see you on the start line.

The NSRI Station09 is hosting the Shoreline Dash beach walk/run on 12 September 2026 @ Strand
Beach. Join us on the 2 or 4km route, as we help raise awareness and vital funds to keep their rescue operations running smoothly.

Wristband Collection: 7:00 AM
(Come early and grab a coffee while you wait!)

Routes: Choose between the 2km or 4km route

Strand took part in the Western Cape Lifesaving Championships held at Clifton Beach 🌊
The team brought great energy, had an amazing time, and represented the club with pride.
