A little intro from me 👋

I’ve spent decades helping business owners find clarity, grow their ideas and turn strategy into action — but building my own brand online has been a whole different challenge.

So I decided to practice what I preach.

I’m doing a 14-day challenge where I follow expert advice on growing an audience online, apply it myself, and share what happens along the way.

I’m here to help good ideas grow into real impact — and I’m learning out loud as I go. This video took about 3 hours of learning and testing. Yes next time it will be faster but reminder that we should reflect on how we are spending our time and make sure it’s creating value for all involved.

Follow along if you’re building something too. by @strategytoimpact

“A quitter never wins and a winner never quits.” Simple, but Napoleon Hill was onto something. Most businesses don’t actually fail, they get abandoned, and often right before the breakthrough.

The founders who make it aren’t always the most talented or the best funded; they’re the ones still standing when everyone else has walked away. That said, persistence isn’t about grinding yourself into the ground, it’s about staying in the game while you adjust. Those who succeed treat a tough patch as a sign to evolve; those who give up treat it as proof it’ll never work.

Important to remember though that pivoting isn’t quitting, more often than not things don’t work out in the intended format, adjusting the next steps is evolution, giving up entirely is the end.

Supporting small business is a lovely sentiment. But it’s not a business strategy.

Your customers are busy. They’re watching their spending. And when a bigger business makes something cheaper, easier or more convenient, asking people to “support local” often isn’t enough.

The question is: why should they choose you anyway?

That’s the bit I think more small businesses need help figuring out. Not more marketing. Not more content. First, a genuinely compelling reason for customers to choose you.

If you’re struggling with that in your business, DM me. I’m always happy to have a chat about what’s getting in the way and where the opportunity might be. by @strategytoimpact

All situations good or bad, are teaching us something. Providing the experience that we end up leveraging in the future to do things better. All lessons are a pathway to success.

Some lessons are more painful than others, but if we can focus of finding the lesson like Napoleon Hill describes in Think and Grow Rich, we can use it as fuel instead of hindrance.

Activity: Think of a painful situation recently that didn’t go as you expected. Write down why you think it worked out like that, why did it hurt, and then write down as many lessons as you can take away from it.
It can be something major or minor… for example last week I posted a trial reel that took me at least an hour to put together and it go only 2 views, I was so annoyed until I realised that 2 isn’t even enough for the algorithm to determine if it’s good or not so something had to be wrong structurally. Of course Instagram doesn’t explain this, so I did some research and learned that certain keywords are automatically blocked, I obviously can’t repeat them here again but in my opinion they weren’t that bad in my context but I could see how they could be bad in another context. My lesson was that it’s not that my reel is bad it’s a couple of the words combined impacted its distribution. I now know not to do that again!

Save this to remind yourself to find the lesson in all things that don’t work out how you expected it to. by @strategytoimpact

In my experience as a business mentor over the last 10+ years, I really see this one clear trait successful business owners... Getting things done…. No excuses. They don’t let themselves get in the way. The act on the plan, review and tweak… and they progress and succeed. Those who get stuck, most of the time it’s not their circumstances, it’s their own personal blocks. They feel like they don’t have enough time, money, support, know how etc etc. They don’t feel comfortable sending emails, posting of social media, or make cold calls. They try one thing, don’t like the results and opt out. All rags to riches stories, start with someone who didn’t have everything but the tenacity to plan, act and win.
For those of us who don’t have the natural tenacity, the best thing we can do for our business is work on ourselves. by @strategytoimpact

I am not sure if I agree with this one...This might be controversial, but lets go with it. Jim Collins opens Good to Great with a line worth sitting with: “Good is the enemy of great.” Though it can be a good reminder that the biggest threat to a great business often isn’t failure, it’s being comfortably good. “Good enough” feels safe, but it quietly removes the urgency to improve, which is exactly how businesses plateau.

The alternative view point often shared is that perfectionism gets in the way of progress, so JUST-GET-IT-OUT, and then tweak and improve as needed.

What do you think? Should we aim for great? Or is “good enough” good enough? by @strategytoimpact

It all counts… Yesterday I felt like I got nothing done but remembered to journal at the end of the day and realised just how much I got done. Reminder to stop, reflect and give yourself some grace.

If you are a business owner and have not read the classing eMyth Revisited (top best selling business book), you need to. This Michael Gerber line from The E-Myth Revisited hits hard: if your business depends on you, you don’t really own a business, you own a job, and often the most demanding one you’ve ever had. When we start out, doing everything ourselves feels like commitment. Over time it can quietly become a cage.

The businesses that grow are the ones built on simple systems that can run without the owner in every seat. It doesn’t happen overnight, and that’s completely okay. The goal isn’t to work harder, it’s to slowly hand things over so the business can stand on its own.

Ask yourself today: what’s one task that only you currently do, that a simple system or another person could take off your plate? Start there, and give yourself a little breathing room. by @strategytoimpact

Good to keep in mind that we can be an expert in one area and a complete beginner in another.

Starting a business. Writing a book. Trying a new social media platform. It’s normal to feel like you have no idea what you’re doing if you haven’t done it before.

But once you start, the right information, people and opportunities begin to appear to show you the way.

As the saying goes, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”

Maybe this page can be one of your teachers. Expert in strategy. Beginner in execution.

Here’s a thought from the Strategy to Impact - Lowest Hanging Fruit Marketing Guide that I come back to often: your own behaviour as a consumer reveals the patterns that will work for your business. The truth is you already know how buying decisions get made, because you make them every single day.

Most founders come up with their business ideas because they notice that something is lacking for them a customer.

As an exercise to help with your marketing, this weekend start to pay attention to what makes YOU stop scrolling, open and read that email, trust a brand, and finally decide to buy. Those same patterns are the blueprint for how your customers will find and choose you. Whether you’re just starting or growing, this is one of the simplest places to get real clarity, and it costs you nothing but attention. by @strategytoimpact

Napoleon Hill said “patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success,” and it’s such a good reminder that there’s really no such thing as overnight success. What looks sudden from the outside is usually years of quietly showing up. Patience to stay the course, persistence to keep going when it’s hard, and plain hard work in between. Almost nobody sticks with all three long enough, which is exactly why it works. If your business feels slow right now, that doesn’t mean it isn’t working, it often just means you’re still in the middle. Of the three, patience, persistence or effort, which one do you need a little more of today? by @strategytoimpact
