We've done a side-by-side comparison of @thembta and @cityofboston designs for Blue Hill Avenue in 2024 vs. the latest 2026 revisions. The new plans still have a dedicated, center-running busway for the 40,000 transit riders who use Blue Hill Avenue on a daily basis – but the latest designs have less space for protected bike paths, and more space for city-subsidized parking. Hundreds of mourners filled City Hall Plaza in downtown Boston on Thursday evening to remember Louisa Gag, the City of Boston planner who was killed by a driver near Roxbury Crossing last week, and to demand safer streets and more effective laws from their elected officials.

One surprise attendee was Mayor Michelle Wu, who acknowledged the crowd's frustration with her administration.

"We owe Louisa more than our grief. We owe her our action. We have to do better,” said the mayor.

New legislation filed by Maura Healey aims to bring clearer rules to e-bikes, scooters, and other micromobility devices—but safety advocates are reminding us to keep the bigger picture in focus.

As Brendan Kearney shared, “the number one public safety threat isn’t e-bikes—it’s people who are driving cars and trucks.”

The proposed bill introduces a new speed-based framework, but many key safety measures—like infrastructure funding and stronger protections for people walking—are still missing.

At WalkMassachusetts, we know safer streets come from designing roads that work for everyone—not just regulating new devices.

A new soccer stadium and millions of square feet of development are proposed in Everett. But without new transit, they'll never get anywhere.

Enter: The MBTA's idea to build a separated busway along Lower Broadway between Revere Beach Parkway and Sullivan Square.

According to reporting by @streetsblogmass, the idea has suddenly gained new momentum in the face of risks to a $22 million federal grant meant to fund the construction.

The busway would add about 15,000 new Silver Line riders who would otherwise be driving, Streetsblog Mass's Megan Volcy reported, and unlock more capacity for the buses that currently serve Everett by eliminating a major source of delays.

"A detailed new traffic analysis of Washington Street in Newton concludes that a new roadway configuration, which sacrificed a motor vehicle lane to create a protected two-way shared-use path on one side of the street, successfully reduced car traffic, slashed the number of speed limit violations, and increased bike traffic between West Newton and Newtonville." 💅💅💅

We are so proud to have worked on this project with @cityofnewtonplanning and @howard_stein_hudson!
