On Your Mats, Get Set, VOTE! The municipal edition wraps up today.

Friday, October 16, 12pm: Caitlin Stockwell, OneCity Vancouver candidate for council, takes my Flow Yoga class. At 1pm we move to the FLEX Room for a free, open conversation. Ask her anything.

Caitlin is a lawyer at First Peoples Law working on Indigenous rights and title, and she was OneCity's top park board vote-getter in 2022. Now she is asking for one of your ten council votes.

This is the sixth and final session of the municipal edition. In ten days, ten candidates for mayor, council, park board and school board, from four parties and an independent, took a class here and stayed to talk.

During class nobody is a candidate or a constituent, just people on mats, breathing. Politics waits until the mats are rolled up.

Vancouver votes Saturday, October 17. Book Friday's noon class through the link in bio, then stay for the talk. And watch this space: the provincial edition starts next week.
180 E. Pender, 2nd floor. See you on the mat. @caitstockwell

This morning we had the pleasure of being invited to participate in a Hatha yoga class at @stretchvancouver, followed by a (faux) fireside chat about the election.

The class was taught by Robert Wilson-Smith and delivered exactly what we all needed, four days out from election day: breath, meditation, a good stretch, and a laugh or two.

The conversation afterward touched on bureaucratic systems at city hall, AI in classrooms, street disorder and addiction.

@stretchvancouver has been located at 180 East Pender for 12 years, and has faced, and is still facing a lot of hurdles to stay open, to provide a space for yoga, dialogue, creativity and growth.

Thank you for this much needed treat amidst the last days of our campaign. Very grateful ๐Ÿ’š

If you've never done yoga before, or you're coming back after a long time, Hatha styles are a good place to start.

Slower pace, more breaths per hold, more time to find your footing (literally). It's the class we recommend most to first-timers.

Find a Hatha class on the schedule:

Hatha with Robert on Wednesdays, 10 to 11:15am (75 mins)

Classic 84 Hatha with Dustin on Fridays, 10 to 11:30am (90 mins)

Yoga is more than asana (poses) and it should be available to everyone regardless of ability, body type, or age.

That's not a tagline for us, it's how we build our schedule and our iteam. If you've felt like yoga 'wasn't for you,' we'd like to change your mind.

My TFL would like to vote for #3, my nervous system would like to lie down ๐Ÿ˜‚

Which triangle is better for you? ๐Ÿ‘€
1. Classical toe bind:
Definitely the deepest. I can get there, but it creates a lot of strain in my TFL. Soโ€ฆ deepest =ฬธ necessarily best.

2. Block-supported:
More space through my torso, but I still feel that lovely little โ€œhello, too much on the hipโ€ voice.

3. Counter pose:
My favorite. ๐Ÿซถ
When I lift out of the pose, I can actually feel the obliques engage and support the pose without straining the hip- it looks better/ smoother too.

Your might like it too ๐Ÿ˜†

A good reminder that more range =ฬธ more benefit. Sometimes the โ€œeasierโ€ variation is actually giving you way more information about how youโ€™re moving.

On Your Mats, Get Set, VOTE! Tomorrow and Thursday are our first two candidate chats.

We've had a great response so far to inviting municipal candidates to come out for a class and stay to chat between now and the Oct 17 election.

Join us! You can come for a class and the chat, or come to STRETCH five minutes after class ends if you're only in for the conversation.

Book through the link in our bio.

Tomorrow - Wed, Oct 7, 10-11:15am - Steve Jedreicich @stevejed2026 running for council joins morning Hatha with Robert. Post-class chat starts at 11:20.

Thurs, Oct 8, 12pm - Scott Gilbert, independent mayoral candidate joins lunchtime Flow with Boyd. Post-class chat starts at 1:05pm.

Stay tuned here, on our website and our schedule as more candidates confirm. Spread the word!

This is Yoga first; no questions on the mat. STRETCH is not endorsing anyone; every candidate gets the same invitation.

.

PS This is Boyd's first reel since the crowdfunder which started it all ๐ŸŽฅ you can expect more face time with him this fall

On Your Mats, Get Set, VOTE!

Vancouver votes on October 17. Last week I invited every candidate in the municipal election to take a class at STRETCH and then stay to talk. The first two are locked in, and they are this week.

Wednesday October 7, 10am: Steve Jedreicich, running for council, joins Robert's Hatha class, then stays to chat.
Thursday October 8, 12pm: Scott Gilbert, independent candidate for mayor, joins my Flow, then stays for a casual conversation about his platform.

Come practise beside them, then ask them anything. Ten more candidates have replied and we are confirming classes with each of them. Watch this space.
Yoga first. During class nobody is a candidate or a constituent. Politics waits until the mats are rolled up, then we sit down and talk. No podium, no script. STRETCH does not endorse anyone. Every candidate gets the same invitation and the same mat.
180 E. Pender. Book through the link in bio. See you on the mat and at the polls.

We didn't pick Chinatown by accident.

STRETCH has called 180 E. Pender home since day one, and this neighborhood's history, community, and resilience shape how we show up as a studio. Come practice somewhere with roots.

What's your favourite spot near us? Tell us below.

Back in 2013, I put together my ultimate yoga class. It was a practice built for the leaders of the G8!
Since then I have lead few politicians on the mat, and I strongly believe in the power of mindful movement before important decisions, difficult meetings, and anything else that asks a lot of a human brain. Political leadership might be the most important use of all. It shapes our neighbourhoods, our city, and our lives.

So this afternoon I emailed every mayoral and council candidate in Vancouver's municipal election and invited them to come practice, here in Chinatown, at STRETCH. Nothing performative. I invited them to attend a class suitable for every body in the room, followed by a chance for our community of parents, artists, entrepreneurs, students and professionals to hear their plans for our city, and engage them with questions of our own.

I've already got two positive RSVPs from candidates for city council, so stay tuned. I'll be announcing their classes here, and in special newsletters.

Candidates, the door at 180 E. Pender is open. #Vancouver, get ready to get your vote on!
