THE EPITOME OF NEW YORKS URBAN TENNIS LANDSCAPE |
The Hudson River park tennis courts on the west side provide quite the backdrop for your hit.
Had a great training session here with @inigotennis who is the head coach of @pratttennis and an amazing player in his own right.
If you have a more extreme semi western or western grip look out for my next video on what I believe is a simple game changing tip that Iñigo gave me to work on.

Still loving the new racket setup with the @yonex_usa E zone 98 with @toroline O-toro strings at 50lbs. Really felt like the spin potential was there with O- Toro.

Is Wimbledon the only thing keeping grass court tennis alive?
What country offers equal accessibility to all three grand slam surfaces?
I’d like to move there.

Great session with Julien from the @tennis.factory - hit them up for your Perth tennis coaching needs!

There are tons of great drills to help you stay side-on through the kick serve motion, but this tip from @2minutetennis_ felt like an instant game-changer.
The idea is to rotate your back heel so it’s more parallel to the baseline — this rotates your hips and helps you stay coiled longer.
Then, focus on uncoiling as late as possible to maintain that side-on position through the stroke.

In the YouTube vid Ryan @2minutetennis_ compares Félix Auger-Aliassime and J.J. Wolf, showing how their different toss heights affect when they make this move in their motion — definitely worth checking out and definitely worth trying this if you have trouble staying side on.

I’ll keep posting the
“Why DONT YOU come to the net more often?” series until the question changes to
“Why DO YOU come to net so often?” 😭😮‍💨

What could I have done better here? There are multiple correct answers because it’s so many things ……

Got to use this vintage can of balls thanks to @proshop_nyc 🙏🏽
You can purchase similar ones online or at their nyc location.

THE WILSON 8 |
I don’t know much about balls, you gotta ask @cshaptennispod who gets credit for being the first person to publicly highlight WTH is going on with retail tennis balls.
.
I think this tennis ball felt exactly like the ones I grew up playing with in the 1990s where this wasn’t even a conversation.
The ball loses felt over time so it moves faster and gets a little tougher to control but it still stays firm for the full session.
.
If I had to summarize my personal experience todays retail tennis balls do the opposite…..they fluff up and get bigger and bigger so feels like more felt, they are heavy and move slow and by the end of sessions they are starting to lose pressure so it can feel impossible to hit winners if you don’t have a Del Potro forehand |

Match highlights from flex league 2 | + 8.5 UTR + 5.0 NTRP | @thenewyorkflex
.
Nothing teaches you more than a real match and especially a beatdown like this one was.
.
When your opponent absolutely refuses to miss but can also come forward and pressure you it’s feels suffocating especially for a counter puncher who’s usually trying to force errors.
.
Real matchplay can sometimes test whether your tennis IQ is strong enough to find ways to win points let alone games and it’s really easy to unravel from the pressure of the scoreboard gettin away from you.
.
I immediately started to give away a ton more errors than usual from over hitting or getting impatient with bad shot selection while my opponent picked me apart methodically.
.
There is nothing that can simulate real matchplay situations and experience, it’s just not possible so sprinkling in real matches into your tennis schedule is the only way to get better at real competition.
You’ll also find the guys that played US college tennis compete at a different level of intensity.
