🎗 In honor of Adam Kincaid, we embrace families battling childhood cancer by giving comfort, offering financial care and creating lasting memories.

We are still trying to find the words to describe last night’s SOLD-OUT 5th Annual Building Hope Gala: All Hallows Evening, presented by @dunzoroofing 🎃✨

OVER $250,000 RAISED FOR KIDS FIGHTING CANCER!!! 🎗️

The tears. The laughter. The joy. The ENERGY! We wish we could bottle it all up and keep it forever. ❤️

And in just about 30 minutes… our Live Auction and Fund-A-Need raised an incredible $138,000! 🙌

But one of the most meaningful parts of the night was having families we’ve had the honor of supporting right there celebrating with us. 🥹❤️

Seeing those families surrounded by so much love was a beautiful reminder of WHY we do what we do. They are the heart of our mission.

To our incredible sponsors, donors, volunteers, vendors, and this AMAZING community… THANK YOU! Your generosity, time, talents, and love made this night possible.

What began as a way to honor Adam and carry on his heart for helping others continues to grow beyond anything we could have imagined.

Because of YOU, more families facing childhood cancer will receive comfort, financial care, and opportunities to create lasting memories. 💛

This is what Building Hope looks like. This is Adam’s legacy in action.

Today marks six years since Adam left us.

It’s hard to put six years of missing someone into words.

We miss his laugh. His humor. His huge heart. We miss the person he was and all the moments we wish we could still have with him.

But we also see Adam everywhere in the work of Strong Like AK.

We see him when a family has a comfortable place to stay while their child receives treatment. We see him when a bill is paid and a parent has one less thing to worry about. We see him in the smiles created through a special wish or memory. And we see him in this incredible community that continues to show up for families facing childhood cancer.

Strong Like AK was built from Adam’s life, his heart, and our desire to make sure other families feel the same love and support our family was given during the hardest time of our lives.

Six years later, his impact continues to grow.

When we look at this picture, we do not see childhood cancer. We see Adam. We see that smile.

He is in the bottom right, at Scarowinds with his friends, laughing, being silly, and completely enjoying the moment. This is how we want people to remember him. Full of life, surrounded by friends, and making memories.

This is why we gather each year.

We gather not to let cancer have the final word in Adam’s story, but to celebrate the life he lived and continue the legacy he left behind.

Only 20 seats remain for our 5th Annual Building Hope Gala. If we fill these final seats, nearly 225 people will gather in one room on October 10 to honor Adam and stand beside families facing pediatric cancer.

To see a room filled with that many people because of the life of one very special boy would mean more than we can put into words.

So…what are we wearing to the Strong Like AK Gala? 🖤

Halloween was one of Adam’s favorite holidays, making this year’s All Hallow’s Evening theme especially meaningful to us.

We created this lookbook to offer a little inspiration and give you permission to have fun with your gala attire.

Think Halloween couture: elevated, creative and glamorous.

Go full-on gala glam. Become an iconic character or couple. Embrace spooky chic. Or keep it classic with a semi-formal dress or suit in darker fall colors.

Costumes are encouraged, but absolutely not required. Come in whatever makes you feel confident and ready for a beautiful evening. The most important part is not what you wear. It is that YOU ARE THERE.

Together, we will celebrate a holiday Adam loved while helping Strong Like AK continue providing comfort, financial care and lasting memories for families facing childhood cancer.

We walked into our Strong Like AK House - Belmont and found this. 💙

A family who had been staying with us while their child received treatment left behind artwork, flowers, handwritten words of encouragement, and a note of thanks.

But what stayed with us most was what their message represented: Having a place to stay gave their family one less thing to worry about. A bed. A kitchen. A living room. A place to come back to after treatment.

Things that seem ordinary, until your family is far from home, navigating childhood cancer.

This is why the Strong Like AK Houses matter. And this is what your support makes possible.
To everyone who helped turn this house into a home for families in need: thank you. Your kindness reaches further than you may ever know.

There’s a story behind our newest Coffee with a Cause. ❤️

Adam’s Fuel for Kindness was created in honor of Adam Kincaid, whose kindness, humor and joy left a lasting impact on the people around him.

Adam’s favorite coffee drink was Caramel Ribbon Crunch, so we created a drink inspired by his favorite: a dark caramel iced latte topped with salted cookie butter cold foam and maple crunch.

Adam faced an incredibly rare pediatric cancer at just 15 years old, and @stronglikeak was created to carry his legacy forward by supporting families facing childhood cancer through cost-free housing, financial assistance and moments of joy.

We’re honored to be a small part of that mission.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. 💛

For us, It’s for Adam.

It’s for every child receiving treatment today.

It’s for the parents sleeping beside hospital beds, the siblings waiting at home, and the families whose lives changed with words they never expected to hear.

Before childhood cancer became part of our family’s story, it was something that happened to someone else.

Another family.
Another child.
Another hospital room.

Then it became ours.

That is one of the hardest truths about childhood cancer. No family believes this will be their story until suddenly it is.

This September, when you see the gold ribbons, we’re asking you to see more than a ribbon.

See the child who should be worrying about school instead of treatment.

See the parent trying to hold a family together while sitting beside a hospital bed.

See the sibling whose world changed, too.

See the family traveling for treatment, wondering how they’ll manage another hotel, another bill, another unexpected expense.

And see these children for who they are, not simply patients, but kids with jokes to tell, birthdays to celebrate, dreams to chase, and whole lives waiting for them.

Children are supposed to grow up.

Adam should have.

We would give anything for more time with him. More birthdays. More laughter. More completely ordinary days.

We cannot change Adam’s story. But we can choose what we do with the love he left behind. And we choose to make it useful.

We open doors for families who need a place to stay.

We help with bills when treatment has turned life upside down.

We create moments of joy for kids who deserve the chance to simply be kids.

We stand beside families and remind them they are not alone. That is Strong Like AK.

This September, we’re asking you to stand with us.

Go gold. Give. Volunteer. Share Adam’s story. Share our mission. Help another family know they do not have to walk this road alone.

And when September ends, please stay.

Because childhood cancer doesn’t end on September 30.
