🏈 Miami Dolphins Speaker & Resume Review

What does it really look like to build a career in the sports and entertainment industry?🎤🏟️🏎️

We were excited to welcome the Miami Dolphins & Hard Rock Stadium team to St. Thomas University, where students had the opportunity to learn more about the organization, explore internship opportunities, and hear directly from industry professionals about what it takes to stand out in the hiring process.

And the opportunities go far beyond football! From Formula 1 and the Miami Open to concerts, Miami Dolphins games, and much more, students can gain experience working some of the biggest events in South Florida.🌴

Our speakers also shared valuable resume advice, answered students’ questions, and gave everyone the chance to ask an individual question at the end of the session.

⚽🎮 One Game. One Future.

Our @stumiami @stu_esports @stuathletics and @stu_spoad programs teamed up with the FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami Host Committee @fwc26miami for youth soccer and responsible gaming clinics across South Florida including a stop in District 2 alongside Commissioner @marleinebastien .

From reaction time training, exercise tips, penalty kick challenges to EA FC competitions, these events inspired the next generation through teamwork, leadership, healthy competition, and most importantly responsible gaming!

🎓🐾 From student-athlete to sports industry professional!

The Sports Administration program welcomed David Pierson III, a recent STU Sports Administration graduate, back to campus to speak with students in the Intro to Sports Administration class.

David shared his journey of balancing academics and athletics while maximizing every opportunity available throughout his undergraduate and graduate experience. He discussed how getting involved from day one through clubs and organizations, volunteer opportunities, internships, networking, and building a strong LinkedIn presence helped create the foundation for his career in professional sports.

He also emphasized the importance of taking advantage of guest speakers and alumni connections within the Sports Administration program, while recognizing the support system back home that has played a significant role in his success.

Thank you, David, for sharing your story, inspiring our students, and showing what is possible when preparation meets opportunity. We look forward to following your continued success! 👏✨

🏀📈 Learning from the best in the business!

The Sports Administration program was honored to welcome Eddie Abad, Senior Director of Retail Operations, and Valentino Henry, Manager of Retail Operations, from the Miami Heat to speak with Prof. Skilling’s Facility & Event Management class.

Students were treated to a virtual tour of Kaseya Center and gained valuable insight into the world of ancillary revenue, retail operations, and merchandise strategy in sports and entertainment venues. The discussion explored how organizations drive revenue growth through customer engagement, upselling strategies, and innovative retail experiences.

Students also learned about the creative thinking and strategic decision-making behind some of the Miami Heat’s most successful retail initiatives, including the award-winning campaign surrounding Bam Adebayo’s “83” jersey, celebrating his record-breaking 83-point regular season performance.

Thank you to Eddie, Valentino, and our Miami Heat family for providing an engaging, behind-the-scenes look at one of the NBA’s most successful retail operations. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between the classroom and the sports industry. 🐾🔥

STUdent Spotlight: Charles L. Gamble 🌟

We’re proud to highlight Charles L. Gamble, a Sports Administration student who gained valuable hands-on experience as a Community Intern with the Miami Grand Prix 🏁🏎️

During his internship, Charles worked closely with the City of Miami Gardens Parks and Recreation Department, helping organize and distribute food to local families as part of community outreach initiatives connected to the event.

This experience allowed him to combine his passion for sports with meaningful service while developing skills in teamwork, communication, community engagement, and event operations. Most importantly, he witnessed firsthand how a global sporting event can create a positive impact beyond competition and leave a lasting impression on the local community.

Charles’ experience is a great example of how sports can bring people together and create opportunities to make a difference.

STUdent Spotlight: Manuel Buroz 🌟

We’re proud to highlight Manuel Buroz, a Master’s student in Sports Administration at St. Thomas University and the Host and President of the NAIA Women’s Hoop Report 🏀🎙️

Through his internship experience, Manuel has played a key role in expanding coverage of NAIA Women’s Basketball across the country. He successfully relaunched the platform’s X account, created an Instagram page that reached over 1,000 followers in its first year, and launched a podcast that gained nearly 90 subscribers in year one.

Beyond growing the platform, Manuel has built valuable relationships throughout the industry, connecting with players, coaches, conference commissioners, and NAIA Headquarters staff. His work has provided meaningful exposure to sports media, content creation, branding, and professional networking while helping elevate the visibility of women’s basketball at the NAIA level.

We are excited to see Manuel continue making an impact in the sports industry through his passion, leadership, and commitment to telling the stories of student-athletes.
