Spring-heeled Jack dancing on the roof of St Francis Xavier’s Church, Salisbury Street, Everton, late September 1904. In oils on a bit of old canvas paper. I read about this in Richard Whittington-Egan’s ‘Tales of Liverpool - Murder, Mayhem & Mystery’ book, and my Irish descendants lived in that street upon settling in Liverpool in the 1870s, that’s how this came about. #liverpool #everton #folklore #fineart #oilpainting by @stuart_irwin

Zurbaran at the National Gallery. Proud to have played a very small role in this exhibition. These profound works, visions to encourage devotion, were unbelievably moving. Study of The Quarrymen on Kensington 1958, (‘The first record’). Stood outside Percy Phillips’ home recording studio. I’ve had this for a good while and it’s done for now. To be transferred to a bigger canvas, properly coloured and probably focused in but this is just a first full scene idea.

Started because I love The Beatles almost as much as old Kensington. My family lived up and down the road from the 1900s - 1980s and my Nan was born in parallel Renfrew Street. One of them will be in the final work.
