MEAT RAFFLE // BEST PERFORMANCE WINNER

I’m incredibly proud of Michael Hodgson, my inimitable lead in MEAT RAFFLE for his Best Performance win at @exit6filmfest

Judge @theshelleyconn said that Mike ‘brilliantly conveyed the complexity of the character’s situation’ and that she ‘loved how he stepped on each emotional marker and story beat with clarity and without overplaying his hand’.

In other news, MEAT RAFFLE has a megaload of screenings coming up this month, so I thought I’d better let people know…

Firstly we’re heading to @greenwichfilmfestival where we’re nominated for Best British Short Film and Best Writer (thanks Greenwich!)

Then we’re off on a northern tour as part of IN THE MIX, a new showcase of BFI Network short films supported by @filmhubnorth - I’ll be doing a Q&A at the Gateshead screening so any North East folk get your tix and I’ll see yas there!

📽️No stranger to CACN’s social media channels, our next See It To Be It Champion is @stuarttarmstrong

Many of you might recognise Stuart from his role with CACN as our Trainee Producer, but he’s also an award-winning screenwriter and director from Cumbria.

Stuart’s work blends dark comedy with heartfelt storytelling and he’s becoming known for creating darkly funny, heartfelt, queer-themed films rooted in his home county; he grew up in Lazonby in the Eden Valley and was born in Carlisle.

Stuart talks about the challenges of making films far from industry hubs and has a pragmatic view of being an artist in Cumbria, including finding other ways to make money outside of your art to begin with, but being brave and putting yourself out there will get you far.

📣 TVIFF 2026 Gala Premiere announcement: ‘STAN BY ME’ a short documentary exploring queer life in Cumbria through the story of Stan, a gay man in his late 80s whose life spans decades of profound social change.

😯 From criminalisation and loss, to faith, love, and community activism, Stan’s experiences offer a unique window into a hidden history of LGBTQ+ life in the rural north.

❤️ Blending personal testimony with a wider exploration of queer Cumbrian identity, ‘Stan By Me’ asks what it means to belong in a place that has often overlooked the people who were there all along.

🍿 This gala screening will be followed by a live interview and Q&A with Stan and renowned LGBTQ+ filmmaker Stuart Armstrong, along with a screening of his previous short film ‘Meat Raffle’ which won Best Comedy at TVIFF 2025.

🎟️ Tickets are available on a Pay What You Decide basis and can be booked now through the link to All TVIFF 2026 Events in our Insta Bio.

🎬 The UK gala premiere of ‘Stan By Me’ takes place on Day 3 of TVIFF 2026 Saturday 14th November at ARC Stockton Arts Centre.

cast & crew appreciation post!

it’s been nearly 3 weeks since we wrapped on the second block of @leaversday and it’s taken me this long to recover from what was the most challenging but creatively fulfilling 5 days of my life

the passion and skill and commitment poured into this film by every single person both in front of and behind the camera has been staggering

we conquered rough terrain with heavy kit, battled horizontal weather fronts, set up unit bases in swampy fields, endured treacherous land rover journeys and much more but not once did anyone bat an eyelid

there are so many more crew and supporting cast who aren’t in these photos, but we should all be so proud of the community of filmmakers we’re building up here in cumbria - and i can’t wait to share the fruits of our labour with the world

here’s to the leavers day class of ‘26 👏🏻

Just wrapped as a 2nd AC for @leaversday !

What a great experience it has been and definitely pushed my skillset these last couple weeks🎬

Massive thank you for @chris_armstrong @stuarttarmstrong and @kaspernoir for bringing us along for this wild journey

To the tech team : @rhysproth_visuals always a pleasure to work together and duo to be reckoned with in the camera department! Lovely to meet and work with @carrie1192 and @willsimfilm can’t wait to work with you all again 🫶
