A wander out today mostly between the showers! 💦💦💦😁

A peek into the hedge rows and fields to see what I could see. 🟩👀🟩

Lots of rich Autumn colour about, bright berries, frilly fungi, some hairy friends and a swing past Tut-tut on the way home.

Got the best out of the day and the sun popped out a couple of times. 🌞🌞🌞

Holey smokes! Another sunny day! and a more adventurous ride off peninsula to Glen Douglas via the Yankee road and a spin down the West coast of Loch Lomond to Luss. 🚴
.
Fantastic views rolling down the Glen and a quick stop at the Fairies bath stone! Unfortunately no sign of naked sprites splashing about in the tiny pool but gloriously sparkly sunny reflections. 🌞
.
An exciting descent to a beach on Loch Lomond under the shadow of Ben Lomond and a spin along the shore to Luss for a delightful frothy Cappuccino and devine n dense fiery slice of iced ginger loaf. 😋
.
A quick peek into Luss churchyard to marvel at the Viking hogs back grave and the rather splendid pick your own Pumpkin patch! 🎃
.
Rather a grand day out and legs mostly intact as I managed to rein it in and not "blow the bloody doors off!" 💥🤣🤣🤣

Out out into the glorious Autumnal West coast scenery for a pedal around the local loop.

Nice to be out in the sunshine and back on the MTB for a reminder why muddy biking is fun.
.
A meandering route up to the trig point before a butt clenchingly on the edge slip slidin descent through the hairy forest into Clynder. 🥳
.
Glad to report I avoided going arse over tit into the challengingly muddy trail/bog! 💩🤣

A little bit of this and a little bit of that this weekend.
.
Fled to the east coast to dodge the wet n wild west coast weather. 🌬️🌧️🌧️🌧️
.
Saturday visited the historic village of Falkland in Perth and Kinross and hiked to the top of East Lomond hill, a steep old yomp straight out of the village. Was suitably rewarded by some spectacular views over the whole of Fife.
.
Then into Tentsmuir forest outside St Andrews today for a cycle about the seemingly endless paths and tracks to find colourful Fungi and big beach vibes. 🌳🌳🍄⛱️🌳

A sunny spin with my brother out along the coast from Sandend to spy the Bowfiddle rock at Portknockie.

Before a return by the Giants steps! For a challenging hike a bike around Dicky Hare point and some cool single-track along the base of the cliffs on the shore.

Being in the area and with its new found fame in the Odyssey film it seemed rude not to take another trot out to Findlater castle the scene of Circe's all you can eat buffet! 😋🤣
.
Beautiful views at Sandend bay and Sunnyside beach with a low tide accessible bonus cave to explore made for a very pleasant morning.
.
Was slightly alarmed on the way back to bump into some potential members of Odysseus's crew caught still in porcine form! 🐷😮😄

Archaeology and a bit of Odyssey!
.
A fascinating presentation on Fri night by Professor Gordon Noble from the Northern Picts Project in Burghead community hall set the scene for a deep dive into the much misunderstood Pictish Kingdom and it's people. 👑
.
The talk was well attended with standing room only by the time it all kicked off. Using all the information found over 10 years of digging on the Burghead fort sight a picture emerged of a monumental fortified settlement of Royal status and importance to the history of Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
.
From its peak as the stronghold of the North holding riches not in monetary terms but through it's status as a cattle wealthy, artistic, (over thirty intricately carved stones have been found on the sight, six depicting stylised Bulls) , agricultural and industrial centre to its eventual violent and dramatic demise it was a mesmerising story. 🤯
.
Repeated attacks from the sea by Vikings and the forceful expansion from the West by the Gaelic Clans eventual overcame the Picts and the digs are revealing the remains sealed below the final destruction by burning and collapse of the defensive ramparts. 🔥 🔥 🔥
.
On Saturday cycled from the camp sight to tour the trenches and listen to the archaeologists explain what they were digging, the importance of the rare and unexpected finds and conclusions that can be taken from them.
.
Being in the area and with the mighty forest of Culbin nearby a further spin of the pedals took me deep into the impressive statuesque pine forests planted directly on the sand dunes with the trees extending fully onto the beach. 🏖️🌲
.
A fantastic and unusual landscape most recently featured in Christopher Nolans The Odyssey film to great effect.
.
In the film Odysseus lands on the sandy beach and the forest stands in for the Land of Lamos, an unfortunate encounter with a group of Laestrygonians (armoured giants) makes for a very dramatic scene in the film and you could feel the myth and legend all around! 👀
.
Luckily no giants! armoured or not were encountered on my cycle through and lunch beckoned, for the record an unexpectedly delicious Salt n pepper crispy chicken fillet burger! 😋😁 taken in Burghead, Moray by @stubob2001

Pizza, pedaling and Picts!
.
Had a fantastic weekend up on the Moray coast visiting Burghead and the surrounding area, camping at Duffus castle. 🏰
.
Cycled the coastal trail to visit an archaeological dig at Burghead Pictish fort, more to come on that. 🚴⚒️⛏️🪏
.
And snagged an unexpectedly genuine Neapolitan pizza delight from Duffus pizza van! Truly bellissimo! 👌🍕👌
