We are thrilled to be featured in @archdigestindia #Repost @archdigestindia (@get_repost) ・・・ Mumbai-based Studio Aline’s (@studio.aline) recent residential project is a lesson in efficient design. The apartment appears as a soft wash of pastels and contours, and looks far bigger than its 740-square-feet floor plan. With a keen eye for spatial planning, the resultant design is vibrant, elegant, and even spacious. # “The client wanted something that is simple and comfortable to live in, and not very high maintenance in the long run,” explains Natasha Naik, who co-founded the studio with Shahid Merchant. “It was a complete blank canvas for us. We decided to break down the walls and make the space much bigger. Also this apartment has east and west facing windows that allow for sunlight and cross-ventilation.” Wooden flooring extends across the apartment, creating a sense of seamlessness between distinct spaces, while softening the overall aesthetic. “Once the wooden flooring was in place, we had the freedom to give each area its own look,” says Naik. The palette is a wash of white, wood and tones of taupe, and much of the furniture was custom-designed on site. “We were looking for something that was mid-century inspired, with subtle hints of eclecticism here and there,” says Naik. “We didn’t want to abide by any one style in particular—we were looking for a timeless look.” More in #linkinbio # Photos: Ishita Sitawala (@ishifishy) Text: Avantika Shankar #ADIndia #homes #inteiror #design #Mumbai #apartment by @studio.aline

To bring back a nostalgic feeling to the store teak wood was chosen as the primary material to be heroed through the design. The client had a good eye for Teak wood and had over the years collected and purchased reclaimed Teak wood from various demolition sites and rundown mills. The mezzanine has been highlighted by a 10 inch thick classical wooden molding that has been made out of several pieces of teak wood connected seamlessly with intricate wooden joinery and polished in a manner that it would feel that it’s made from a single piece of wood. The column that holds the mezzanine has been draped with wooden shelves to add volume to the space and maximize shelving for the tight stock calculations as per the client's brief. This under the mezzanine furniture was playfully called the elephant table since it was abstractly shaped like one and was proportionately huge while it was being developed outside site with detailed drawings. Once it was placed in its actual position it seamlessly blended in the space. . . . . This project is a complete overhaul of one of Mumbai’s oldest Multi-brand apparel store. The project is of a revivalist nature wherein the client wanted us to revive the shopping experience of a multi brand store which has completely deteriorated to a self-service style pickup and pay experience. They wanted the old 'sit down - chat - have a tea - and enjoy shopping' ways to be brought back to the store and revive the old shopping experience.SWIPE ➡️ TO EXPERIENCE . . . .
