Ever drink your paint water instead of your coffee while painting? Well, we’re removing the middle step there and just painting with coffee for this event, no risk of ingesting the forbidden-coffee-slash-toxic-paint juice. Tickets are $25 and the link is up on our bios at @gardencoffee.sandiego and @studio.gum.mastic. There are only 12 spots available!

If you prefer painting still life, there will be enough decoration in the room for various compositions and I will be there to help out through the whole thing. If you prefer a more guided drawing experience, we’ll have lots of stencils to play with. Whether you are an avid painter or have never picked up a brush, you will leave with a deliciously aromatic painting. All materials provided.

This past year has certainly been a valtz between expanding beyond my limits and shrinking in ways that still break my heart. Who would have thought that to grow in some areas also meant to shrink in others? Turns out you can’t have one without the other.

After a series of friendship fall-outs, I have been challenging myself to be the best version of myself for the past two years. I had figured if I could be the friend I needed for other people, I would eventually receive the love back. I did meet incredible people in the process, but more often than not, I found myself unappreciated and deeply misunderstood. It’s been a difficult process of realizing as much as I loved building community, I had to limit how much others had access to my life.

This art piece took me a while to complete because of the life lesson I was grappling with in the background. The more I expanded and found the courage to display my growth, the more I found myself forced to hide this from the wrong crowd. Keeping your gifts, passions, and joys hidden from the wrong eyes is not always a symptom of shame. It can be the greatest gift you give yourself when needed.

Take this as your permission to go hiding from places you feel judged, monitored, or stereotyped to come home to all the good things you worked for protected and unharmed. Keep your kindle alive for environments that will welcome your growth, and don’t waste it to prove yourself to a crowd committed to treating your joy as disingenuous and frivolous. I personally believe it takes a very strong person to pursue joy and a love for life.

Where are my fall people at? I’ve been in a bit of an art block lately, so I thought I would post my old artwork while I am trying some new things in the background. It’s so hot, I feel like I can’t function at my best no matter how many ice cream treats I try to motivate myself with 😋 Today what got me to draw a bit was a cookie butter affogato. Anyways, I can’t wait till it cools down a bit so I can go back to wearing my comfy sweaters and feast on some yummy pho 🍲

I am convinced that the best spiritual breakthroughs happen to me while I’m busy with my mundane, day-to-day life. Moments where I finally forgive myself for a past mistake, where I realize I am happy with my life, and that I believe everything is in fact working out for me. None of these look like instagram-able moments, and that is exactly what makes them so authentic.

The magic is hidden in the most unaesthetic moments of life. You realize your job doesn’t stress you out anymore while on a routine phone call with a client on a random Tuesday. You realize you are comfortable in your own skin while sipping on the slightly burnt office coffee after a lifetime of wondering if you’ll ever get there. Then you catch a glimpse of yourself in the bathroom mirror and notice your expression has softened, after not knowing if you’ll ever let your walls down. You realize how lucky you are when you get to drive off to your peaceful apartment after a busy day and you get to spend the rest of the day doing the things you love. I hope you enjoyed these affirmations and I hope life has great things in stock for you.

At the expense of triggering my fellow office workers, happy Monday! Lately I’ve been finding a lot of comfort in 90s and early 2000s rom-coms. Okay, fine. I admit, I am honestly sick with nostalgia for an era of adulthood I was too young to be a part of. The one I used to imagine my mom experienced when she went off to her job in those tall, grey buildings.

I love this chapter of my life but working a corporate job has its unique set of challenges (i.e. staring at a screen for 8 hours a day, buzzing fluorescent lights, repetitive tasks). Some days are particularly tough and all that gets me through the day is imagining myself as the struggling protagonist before her big break. So, let this post be an homage to how your imagination can make uneventful chapters of life feel like a movie where the ordinary things feel magical.
