SO SOFT AND THE SUN
TANZ, PERFORMANCE, LECTURE
JASCHA VIEHSTÄDT

Sa. 24.10.26, 19:00
ORT: LICHTHOF Theater @lichthoftheater

Photo: Takaya Kobayashi

“so soft and the sun” is an ongoing artistic research project by Hamburg-based choreographer Jascha Viehstädt. It explores the relationship between humans, technology and nature, setting them into restless, oscillating relations with one another.

The current edition marvels at the generation of language and text through LLMs (Large Language Models). Within an installation by scenographer Takaya Kobayashi, choreographic images encounter charred objects in the ceaseless rhythm of day and night. A married couple of researchers shares glimpses of their work and everyday lives: In a lecture, Dr. Deniz Sarikaya speaks about insights from AI research and epistemology. A literary contribution by Dr. Mira Sarikaya moves between fiction and linguistic research, engaging with language, technology, and their entangled futures. And finally, a guest dancer @venetsiana.k makes her way through an overwhelming torrent of movement.

“so soft and the sun” places language — in the form of software or code — at the heart of contemporary technology, asking how our perception and our relationship to the natural and artificial systems surrounding us are shifting.

In a week to our OPEN WA~TER No1. 🧡

Up Side Down—Damini Gairola @daminigairola
(performance)

Up-Side Down explores the body as a living archive of memory and a site of future possibilities. Moving between remembering and forgetting, lightness and heaviness, the work asks how past experiences remain present in the body — and whether movement can lead us towards forms of knowledge that the mind cannot access.

Through shifting physical states, the performance traces a body caught between different timelines, searching for coherence while resisting erasure.

In a week to our OPEN WA~TER No1 . 💚

Please Do Not Lift Alone—Emir Garcia @e.moves8
(live installation/participatory performance)

Please Do Not Lift Alone brings a private state of self-abandonment into public view: a mess, a body, a longing to be seen and supported without asking for it. The audience encounters this vulnerability, sharing the uncertainty of what happens next.

Rooted in experiences of depression, limiting thoughts and emotional and physical paralysis, the work inhabits the unstable space between helplessness and support, limitation and dependence, individual agency and collective response.

We welcome Damini Gairola and Emir Garcia, sharing their current works as part of the first OPEN WA~TER. Sina Saberi will host the Micro Labs and facilitate a follow-up discussion between the artists and the interested audience.

Both sketches revolve around personal memories and emotional states. In “Up Side Down”, Damini Gairola seeks to resist forgetting and erasure of her personal, historical imprints. Coincidentally, Emir Garcia is experimenting with a suspended body in “Please Do Not Lift Alone” and turns herself upside down for as long as she can take it.
