Cahill Park Amenities + Café, Wolli Creek.

Designed by @hayball_arch and completed in 2021 for @baysidensw, the pavilion has now had five years to settle into its surroundings.

What stands out today is how naturally it has become part of the landscape. Its flowing form still frames the Cooks River, creates refuge from the nearby Princes Highway and strengthens the connection between Wolli Creek, Cahill Park and the riverfront.

Five years on, it feels less like an addition to the park and more like an established part of it. A small piece of architecture that continues to shape how people move through, meet and experience the waterfront.

A visual exploration of Powerhouse Parramatta.

A study in structure, scale + light, focusing on the building from the outside in. The exposed steel exoskeleton, layers of glass and shifting geometry create a facade that changes constantly depending on where you stand and how the light moves across it.

One of those buildings where the details become just as interesting as the whole.

MONA — Darling Point.

Set between the harbour and Sydney’s inner east, MONA sits moments from Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay and the city beyond. It is a project shaped by its surroundings—drawing on the Art Deco character of Darling Point while creating a more contemporary, considered place to live.

Designed by @mhndu, the building is defined by its tonal brick façade, curved forms and deeply framed openings. The handmade brickwork by @naturalbrick_ gives the architecture warmth and texture, while landscaping by @wyerandco softens the edges and connects the building back to its leafy setting. Inside, @richards_stanisich has created residences with generous proportions, natural materials and a strong connection to light, outlook and everyday living.

My approach was to spend time with those details—following the light as it moved across the brickwork, noticing variation in the material, and looking for the smaller moments that give the building its character.

The wider views help explain the architecture, but it is often the textures, shadows and considered junctions that tell the more honest story of how a project has been made.

That is the work I enjoy most: working with people who care about what they are creating, then finding a way to document it with clarity, care and a bit of personality.

A space that evolves with every movement of light.

Designed by @collinsandturner for @cityofsydney, this adaptive reuse project breathes new life into an industrial warehouse, transforming it into a contemporary hub for community, movement and connection.

From raw textures to refined details, every surface has been thoughtfully considered, allowing light and shadow to continually reshape the experience of the space.

SPOTLIGHT · SURRY HILLS VILLAGE

A closer look at the work of the architects, builders, engineers and craftspeople whose combined efforts have shaped the everyday spaces we occupy.

There’s a lot to appreciate in how Surry Hills Village comes together. The warmth and variation in the brickwork, the planting woven between buildings, and the way contemporary forms sit alongside the retained heritage architecture give the precinct a strong connection to its surroundings.

What stands out is the attention carried through from the broader layout to the smallest details. Laneways open into places to gather, materials bring character to the façades, and light and shadow reveal the depth of the construction. Together, these elements make a substantial development feel welcoming at street level.

There’s another side to BIANCA that reveals itself beyond the architecture.

Set directly on Drummoyne Bay, the residences are shaped as much by their outlook as they are by their design. From the water and harbour beyond, to sweeping views towards the Sydney skyline and Harbour Bridge, the surrounding landscape becomes an integral part of the experience.

BIANCA speaks to a different kind of luxury - one defined by its connection to place.

REVERIE / MOSMAN.

Brickwork made for morning light. Captured at sunrise, Reverie’s facade takes on a golden warmth, with low sunlight revealing the texture of the masonry, reflections across the glazing and palms catching the first light.

Its arches and handcrafted brickwork reference the neighbouring Mosman Art Gallery, connecting contemporary residential architecture with the character of its setting. It’s this relationship between material, detail and context that drew us in.

Beautifully designed by @aboutsjb and built by @trescon.au - Bianca sits on the edge of the Drummoyne peninsula, where considered architecture meets the harbour.

We spent the morning documenting the project through photography, exploring the intricate details, materiality and geometry of the residences, while also looking at how they respond to their surroundings. The changing light, harbour vistas and long views back towards the Sydney skyline all became part of the story.

For us, this was less about simply documenting another development and more about capturing its sense of place.

Bianca, Drummoyne.

Beautifully designed by SJB and built by Trescon, it sits on the edge of the peninsula, where the architecture meets the harbour.

We spent the morning documenting the project, looking at the intricate details, materials and geometry of the residences, but also the way they sit within their surroundings.

The changing light, the harbour vistas and those long views back towards the Sydney skyline all became part of the story.

Captured across both photography and video, this was less about documenting another building and more about capturing its sense of place.
