A continuous millwork headboard reframes the existing chimney, extending to create a backdrop for the bed. Finished in a deep teal, it integrates a recessed ledge, concealed storage, and pull-out bedside trays in a single run of joinery.

Some of our favorite design moments come from constraints. At the townhouse, where we upgraded radiators and old heat pumps to high-efficiency central air, the challenge was finding a place for the new ductwork without compromising the character of the stair hall.

Instead of hiding the ductwork behind a bulky soffit, we made it part of the architecture. The gently curved form allows the new intervention to sit comfortably alongside the original plaster moldings rather than compete with them.

At the Bloomfield townhouse, we explored contrast to shape the character of each space, balancing moments of depth and enclosure with areas of light and openness.

The powder room is enveloped in dark blue penny tile, while the guest bathroom is defined by natural light, subtle color, and texture.

We wanted the Bloomfield Townhouse kitchen to feel like a place people naturally gravitate toward: warm, welcoming, and filled with natural light. The oversized island creates plenty of room for cooking and gathering, while the built-in banquette offers a cozy spot to slow down and enjoy the morning light.

Behind the finished space, a new steel beam allowed us to remove the original masonry wall and create a kitchen that spans the full width of the townhouse. At the rear, enlarged window and door openings bring in natural light and create a connection to the backyard.

A soft pistachio green lines the interior of the white oak storage shell, artfully concealing an existing exhaust shaft. A desk area, hidden behind pocket-hinged doors, seamlessly transforms the kid’s room from playful retreat to study nook.
