New website! Still adding to it, but have a look! studiolu.ca by @studio.lu.yyz

Feet first! Happy with how this series of #chawan #teabowl came out of the woodfiring. Updating StudioLu.ca soon! #tealovers #teaceremony #handmadepottery by @studio.lu.yyz

Continuing explorations of time, memory, and narrative in these pots with expressive surfaces. I’ve been revisiting themes….

Transitions offer the opportunity to look forward and back at the same time. In these moments we choose what to carry on and what to leave behind.

The series “A View from the Shinkansen” is an exercise at such a time: a memory I carry as a dream before the experience, a trace of moments real and imagined. A wish and a reflection.

A little surprise at the door yesterday… my #handmadepottery from a #ceramics residency in Tajimi, Japan. Thank you @kusanokashiragama ❤️ by @studio.lu.yyz

Still unpacking, literally and figuratively, from a recent residency in Tajimi, Japan @kusanokashiragama I could spend a decade there and still only get a taste of the combined knowledge that Aoyama Sensei and his son Kensuke Aoyama so readily shared — not just wheel throwing techniques, but history and traditions, glaze chemistry, harvesting and utilizing wild clay, wood firing… even how to pack pottery properly for its long journey home!
For the Aoyamas, it’s a true vocation and way of life. Skilled masters of their art, with a gift for helping each student grow where they need it most in their journey.
I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity to learn in the studio, but more importantly to experience Japanese culture and concepts firsthand. Thank you to the entire Aoyama family for their generous hospitality.
Still collecting my thoughts and reflecting on this time, but here’s a peek… 👀
