Another little test print using Pfeil tools to carve. I’m really enjoying carving with the tiny tools and now I’ve picked up some schminke relief ink I can’t wait to get carving and printing for real!

So in love with this sad little cloud with all his swirls and wavy lines 🌧️

I finally had a good chunk of time to make some prints of the carvings I made this week!

While I love the way thy turned out, I think there is still a few improvements I’d like to make…

- Better ink - the ink I used here was thick and dried extremely quickly making inking up the blocks really challenging!

- A press! Okay maybe let’s try a proper barren first and then see about a press… baby steps!

- Paper - Here I just used some nice paper from a notebook that I had to hand but I’d love to experiment with some thinner paper. Perhaps the ink will take better to thinner paper and be a little easier to burnish.

Carving this star was a pretty humbling process. It looked like it should be easy but my goodness it really challenged me!

There are lots of sharp corners and thin spaces that I just don’t have enough practice with and I found myself slipping a lot with the tools and accidentally cutting areas out that shouldn’t have been. I’m sure carving late at night when I’m already tired from a day of working another job accounts for much of my errors but that’s something I’ll have to get better at recognising.

Despite the challenges, I still enjoyed carving this little gal and I’m excited to see how she prints up this weekend!

Honouring today’s sunshine with a little sunny chap 🌞

I’m usually more of a cold weather person (autumn gal at heart!) but it was so good to see the sun today. It’s left me feeling more energised and excited for warmer days to come.

One of my favourite parts of printing is seeing the first test print. It’s just feels ✨magical✨ to see the image appear on paper.

It’s safe to say this sleepy little moon will need a bit of refining, though I do like that chatter around the outside!
