We have been a little quiet on here lately..

That is because Spring has been busy, in the very best way!

We have been tucked away behind the scenes, dreaming, creating and bringing some pretty incredible projects to life.

All still works in progress, but we couldn’t resist sharing a little sneak peek at what we’ve been up to.

More to come soon…

The best children's bedrooms are designed to evolve.

Rather than designing around a specific age or trend, we focus on creating a timeless foundation that can adapt as your little one grows.

When transitioning from a cot to a big bed, we focus on three key principles:

• Invest in the foundations.
Choose timeless furniture that will grow with your child and won't need replacing in a few years.

• Keep personality in the layers.
Artwork, bedding and décor are much easier (and more affordable) to update as your child's interests change. It also makes refreshing the room for resale or a future move far simpler than replacing wallpaper or painting walls.

• Create a cohesive palette.
A considered colour scheme allows the room to feel playful and age-appropriate without relying on a heavily themed design.

Swipe through to see how this concept came together from the initial mood board and colour palette through to the final render.

A thoughtfully designed children's bedroom shouldn't need a complete makeover every few years. It should simply evolve.

To chop or not to chop?

We've seen this idea floating around lately that chopping your cushions to create a more defined look has officially become outdated.

Do we agree?
Yes, and no.

Yes, like most things that become overexaggerated or oversaturated, they will at some point be considered outdated. A finishing touch once used to create structure and definition can, if overdone, look stiff and unnatural.

What do we do at Studio Ostra?
We prefer a blend of the following:
• A good shake to evenly disperse the feather inners (recommended inner).
• A gentle squeeze on either side of the cushion to create front-facing dimension.
• A light chop on top to create a clean finish.

What do you think? Has the 'chop' officially left the building?

The transformation.

Before and after images are, in our opinion, the most satisfying part of showcasing the renovation journey.

From dated disconnection to a Scandinavian haven.

Working within structural constraints, we opened where we could and refined where we couldn’t. Each decision was deliberate. Custom where necessary, restrained where possible. When the right piece didn’t exist, we created it.

The result is a home that feels cohesive; crisp whites, natural timber bringing warmth, and black accents layered with sculptural, bespoke elements.

This is the Ostra philosophy made tangible. Finding beauty in constraint, creating what doesn’t exist, and revealing the pearl within.

Let us know your favourite room transformation in the comments!

Part two is here! Designed within constraint.

Not every project begins with a blank canvas. This renovation came with fixed elements; structural steel, immovable layouts, and defined limits.

With the footprint set, we focused on what we could shift within the Kitchen. Opening one wall (within structural limits), allowed for a breakfast bar and a stronger connection to the living space. Light now moves more freely, and the experience feels entirely different.

A custom curved rangehood anchors the room, echoing the home’s entry and creating continuity. Vertical linear tile adds texture and height, while black fixtures and timber accents ground and add warmth to the palette.

We resolved the bathrooms with the same approach. Working within the existing, and elevating through materiality and detail.

We opened what we could.
Kept what worked.
Refined what mattered.

Next up, we will be sharing before and afters of the project - stay tuned!
